Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Adjustment of Status interview for the K1 visa, 2 year greencard was held in Philadelphia at 11am, Feb. 8. We arrived about an hour early, and used the USCIS parking lot next door. We went into the building at about 10:45, and went through security. The guards kept complaining that people didn't know to take off belts/shoes/metal because of security, but it's similar to the US airports.

The interview was up a flight of stairs, and a large waiting room was full of families and people. Officers would call from different doors, but people were spaced out with Covid rules and such. Our name was called pretty on time, Officer Walley interviewed us.

The IO was very laid back, he was joking and talking with us pretty casually, about the Winter Olympics, his family, Twitch and other random things. We probably talked more about life and other things than actual interview questions.

The IO asked for the beneficiary's DOB, name, wedding day. He asked if he's ever lied to obtain a visa, committed crimes against the US, or committed a crime (yes). My husband has a record from 2013 with not paying back student grants from the State of Finland. The IO did not appear to have those documents, but thankfully we had brought a complete copy of the submission, so he made a copy of relevant info and that was that.

He did not look at anything else for the interview, we had brought photos and proof of our marriage. He said that supplying as much for removal of conditions will be super important, as that can lead to a waiver for the in-person interview. He even joked that the service centers don't look at documents very well because they send packets that very, very clearly should have the interview waived.

He gave us the verbal approval of the greencard at the interview, and said the card should arrive in the mail in about 3-6 weeks (covid delays and being behind in processing). It was more nerve wracking navigating Philadelphia road works than the actual interview. 10/5 stars for the FO.
