What a journey!

We became DQ’d 2 June much to our surprise. We filed an expedite request 27 June for emotional hardship. This was approved 7 July and 15 July our interview was scheduled for 28 July 2020.

Flying from Victoria to NSW required more preparation during COVID19 due to border restrictions. I had about 10 documents as evidence of my “legal requirement” to be in NSW. This was accepted by all 3 NSW health officials at Sydney Airport.

I stayed at the Travelodge in Martin Place. I was there from the 27-29 July. I would give them a 3.5/5 stars - mainly for cleanliness of the room. Really easy to get to the Consulate though. So I would stay there again if I had to go back.

My interview was scheduled for 11:10am. I arrived at 8:30am and was told to come back 30 mins prior to interview. Arrived back 30 minutes prior and was told to come back 10 minutes prior. I think this was due to covid.

I was eventually allowed in. Security is similar to that of a prison or an airport. I went to level 55. I took a ticket and sat down and waited.

After around 20 minutes I was called to the counter and supplied them everything I had. This include the public charge document(s). After a further 20 minutes I went back to the counter to collect my documents and the man said that the consular official may request my public charge document. At this point, I had a bad feeling.

Around 30 minutes later, I was called to the “window” where they conduct the interview.

1. I made an oath
2. Asked when we were married
3. Asked how we met
4. Asked how many children we have
5. Asked what I’ll do for work or if I’ll stay home with our child
6. Asked if my husband was in Australia last year - it was at this point I knew we would have a refusal as he asked when he returned and that he looks at his most recent tax return.

After a while the consular official said that he can either issue or refuse and he has to refuse as he requires a joint sponsor “that will be willing to step in and help if needed”.

I was issued the 221g form. Left the consulate and cried.

Uploaded joint sponsor 31 July 2020, went into administrative processing 7 August and 10 August (today) was approved or “issued”.

It has been an emotional roller coaster.

I would have loved an approval on the day but that was not meant to be. I am glad they approved our joint sponsor and I can finally reunite our daughter to her dad after over 7 months apart. Our lives are finally going to start
