Hey everybody,

I would like to give you a brief explanation of my experience in the consulate on the day of my interview. First, I would like to state that my husband flew from the United States to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil just to accompany me in the interview, we wanted to make sure everything would be correct. Our interview was scheduled at 07:30 am and we got there at 07:00 am. For those of you who don't know, we can't get into the building with any type of electronic equipment but calm down, literally right next to the building, specifically in the corner there is a guy who saves your phone for R$10 ($2) while you are inside. You get scared in the beginning but don't worry because he is there doing that for years and everyone goes to him. Also, if someone forgot to bring a document and needs to print, there are also places that you can pay to access computers. With that being said, back to what I was saying after my husband and I placed our phones with this guy we went to the line to sign our names and wait until someone from the consulate call us to get into the building.

We waited for a couple of minutes and then this person came and called everybody to get into the building, we go through the security procedures and right after that goes to this room. Then they explain to us in what order we will sit and what we will do before we go to the interview with the agent. First, we get a sheet stating all of the documents that we are supposed to have at that moment then we separate them and hand it to the person in charge of that room. He will verify all of the documents and if everything is there then he will give it back to you and inform you that your next step is to talk to the agent to validate your documents. A side note, they were being nice that day because there was some people that forgot some documents and they were allowing those people leave the building to print or rescheduling them for a very next close date.

Well, I was called by the first agent (Brazilian) and she checked all of my documents and confirmed again that everything was correct and that also informed me that the next step would be to talk to the agent for the interview. This second agent of the interview was American, which is nice. We sat down again and we waited for our turn. Finally, our time came and we were received by the agent with a warm welcome. He just asked a couple of questions, which was what was the date of my marriage, how my husband and I met each other, how many times I have been to the U.S, how many times he had been to Brazil and a picture of our marriage. That's all he asked and he even joked about our album because it was a very big plus because we were both in the military. I was an officer of the Brazilian Army and my husband an active duty of the U.S. Army. Well, everything went smooth and it lasted for about an hour and a half.
