Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

Hopefully this review will help some of you.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience.

Location:
Both the doctor’s office and consulate were easy to find and offered parking (for those arriving by car).

Medical visit:
Everyone at Istituto Varelli was very friendly and upbeat. We were in and out in about 2 hours.
My husband’s visit was the standard €220. If you need vaccinations, you'll pay additional fees. If it's flu season, you'll be required to get the flu-shot.

-Have your vaccination record with you. You can get your vaccination records from your local ASL or doctor.
-When entering the doctor’s office, it’s best to arrive as early as possible. My husband and I arrived at 7:00 a.m. and were let in right away.
-Don’t forget to locate the number machine and to push ‘’C’’ for consulate when entering the medical building. This is the order in which you’ll be visited.

The interview:
I (USC) accompanied my Italian husband for our IR1 interview.
The process was extremely smooth. We were in an out in about an hour and a half.

The entire process in order:
1. Greet the consulate guards and tell them why you’re there
2. Airport style security, receive number (order in which you’ll be interviewed) and passport check
3. Documents will be arranged in order by someone
4. Review of documents, small chat by someone (maybe a CO trainee? not sure)
5. Wait-talk-watch some tv (the longest part for us)
We were in a lovely, small group of ourselves, 4 other couples and someone for a student visa. Everyone was very nice and chatty.
6. The interview (don't be nervous and smile!)
7. If approved pay the immigrant fee

Our interviewing CO was very friendly. The whole interview lasted about 2 minutes.
We were asked 2 questions: when we met and where we got married.

We came overly prepared.
We brought a 3 ringed, organized binder with everything imaginable in it, but weren’t asked for any photos or other proof of our relationship.
*It is best to bring EVERYTHING and be prepared, because you never know, everyone’s interview will be different, and we did notice some couples being asked for proof of their relationship.

Additional notes:
Don't be nervous.
If you have an interview coming up in Naples be calm and don’t worry. It will be a pleasant experience, if you’re organized.
If you have any questions feel free to message me!

Good luck everyone!
