While eating my croissant. Here it is.
After months of waiting for IL, we finally got it Oct 15 for a Nov 8 interview. One week prior, we were rescheduled Nov 18 due to the move.
Interview day November 18,2019.
My appointment time is 8:30 am. Left my hotel at 8:20 because I’ve read that they turn you away and wont let you in nor line up outside before the appointment schedule.
Got to the consulate door 8:23 and there were people outside in queue. I asked a few of them if what time is their appointment and they all said 8:30. They let in people 3 at a time then 1 by 1.
I was inside 8:41. Handed my passport to the ladies and they checked my name on their ipad. Gave me back my passport and a laminated sheet with assigned number and instructions on how they want your documents arranged.
Went through security. Left my phone at the hotel to make it easier for me but if you decide to bring, they will keep it for you. Took my coat off and all other metals, put them on a tray and all documents. My documents are in a lululemon type of bag. I saw some ladies with big bags and idk what happened to the other one with a backpack. For sure she was asked to leave it somewhere. It’s the same as going through airport security except you keep your shoes on.
End of security is elevator to first floor where I sat with others and arranged documents following the laminated sheet instructions. If you prearranged your documents and is organized, this is very easy.
Copied from the sheet in order:
Passport
2 pictures
Medical report
Birth certificate
Marriage certificate
Divorce papers (not applicable to me but if anyone here needs it)
Police clearance/s
AOS
Income tax return
FIRST CALL: 10:30AM
Window 5.
The lady was very nice. I first gave her my passport and laminated sheet.
While going through my documents and her computer, she asked me who is my petitioner, my phone number and present address. My husband’s phone number and address.
Original documents from me aside from PASSPORT:
Birth certificate
Marriage certificate
Police clearance/s
2x2 ID picture (she just scanned 1 and gave it back to me)
Canadian work permit (she only checked the original and gave it back to me. I gave her a photocopy). If you are not a Canadian citizen, bring your original and a copy of your status in canada.
MEDICAL (she gave me the CD from inside. Souvenir 😄)
Husband’s copies of:
Recent tax returns and w2
Also a copy of his birth certificate. (CEAC did not ask me this but luckily I had a copy)
They did not take the I-864 I have.
Then fingerprints and gave me the information on the legal rights to immigrant victims of domestic violence in the USA and facts about immigrating on a marriage-based visa paper to read.
I went back to sit, read and chat for another 1.5 hrs.
SECOND CALL: 12:06PM
This time in a different window. Window #2.
Another nice lady! She apologized for the backlog this morning. I said, no worries. I just hope I will make it to my train. While smiling of course. 😅
She asked me to put my 4fingers on the finger print scanner as a signature that what I am about to tell them is the truth. (And nothing but the...) ðŸ˜
Questions asked:
How did we meet?
And you got married in March ________? I see you are newlyweds. Congratulations!
What is his job?
What was your longest stay in the US?
How often do you see each other?
While she was again looking at her computer, “Alright! Well I see everything is good in here. Welcome to the United States! We will keep your passport and expect to have it back in 2weeks. So when you receive your passport, don’t be surprised if you see this stamped on your B1/B2 visa (Cancel stamp). Before you go, I just want to make sure you have this paper about domestic violence.†I said I do have it and read while waiting.
She said congratulations again and gave me the welcome letter and said I hope you make it to your train. 😄
I thanked her and left with a big smile! Rushed to elevator and before I walked out the door of the groundfloor where I got in, I looked at the clock and it was 12:11PM.
About evidence of relationship (pictures, receipts, flights, etc)- I had collage of our pictures since day one, receipts, cards, plane /train tickets. They never asked me any of these but please bring. It is better to be over prepared than be given the 221g form because you lack one piece of paper.
Reading previous reviews of the old consulate location, I think they used to have vending machines. This new location only has a drinking fountain. It is new so maybe there will be changes soon. Good luck everybody!
