Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Just had my interview for Adjustment of Status from a K1 visa.

My wife and I arrived 30 minutes early as instructed. We had to wait just a little past our appointment time before someone called my name. The IO was very friendly and easygoing. First he gave some instructions and took my fingerprints. He then proceeded to ask a few very simple questions, basically just seeing if I remember some of the things I filled in on the application. He then asked quite a lot of questions of the type "do you plan on selling drugs in the US" and so on, and then he asked me three "personal" questions about my wife - name, favourite food, and favourite song. And that was it - he did not ask for a single thing from the fat binder I had prepared. Not even one photograph or identification documents for our co-sponsor or anything. Literally not a single piece of paper. So that was a pretty big waste of paper, plastic and ink... but of course we are happy that the interview was so easy.

Our case might have been a bit unusual in that we filed from a K1 but we actually lived together in my home country before we moved to the US, so maybe they required a little less evidence of a bona fide relationship than they normally do. At any rate, I'd say the whole experience was just about as pleasant and pain-free as a government/immigration related experience can be.
