Not a bad experience all round but be prepared for a lot of waiting, standing in queues, and showing your visa application confirmation printout to a bunch of different people before being ushered on to the next. The interview itself was just a series of questions at a window, which was not at all private, so be aware of any embarrassing criminal record history that you might have to explain. The only hiccup in my case was a stepped-down caution which I couldn't remember all the details of, and since they're not allowed to ask ACRO for your info due to data protection, I had to write down all the details I could remember. Then they had to go away & call ACRO who could only say "yes" or "no" to what I had written. Thankfully I'd remembered the important details correctly - if I'd known in advance then it would have been worth me submitting a subject access request to ACRO & getting my full record to hand over. It delayed the approval decision by a couple of weeks but in the end it was approved.
