Reading others recent reviews was a huge blessing and peace of mind going in to my interview this last week.
i don't want to re-hash what others have already said so i'm only going to try and add what i didn't know from what i read.
my interview was scheduled for 10.30 but after reading others reviews realised it seems to be you're on a list for that day and it works out first come, first served. i walked into the consulate at 8am and walked out approved at 9.30am.
The lifts worked by swipe card/touch screen and security at lobby level informed me they would become available for US consulate interviewees at 8am. so at 8am i approached a touch screen/swipe point and there was a "10 - US Consulate" option.
so that got me in a lift up to 10th floor where i followed the signs to US consulate.
A security officer asked for my for phone and keys and pt them in a zip pouch and handed it back to me.
i then proceeded to the document check in counter where they asked for my checklist and as they read it off i handed them the documents they wanted. they removed most clips i had put on my documents and handed the clips back to me as well as a clear folder they supplied with my newly collated documents.
then proceed through security screening kind of like airport security. they then kept my pouch with phone and keys and gave me a number tag to retrieve it afterwards.
i was directed to take a seat and wait to be called to the next elevator, once called and in the elevator you go to floor 59 and are again directed by security where to go.
you enter the office, as others have said select one of two options on a ticket machine. "American Citizen" or "Visa" then take a seat and wait to be called.
called up first time to hand in documents in clear slip, called up 2nd time some time later for interview questions.
n.b. i had heard reports on VJ that Sydney insists on IRS transcripts and that 1040's are insufficient, i came prepared and it paid off. document check in didn't seem to know that and accepted 1040's as financial evidence but my interviewer said he needed the transcripts which i promptly produced for him.
after some questioning and my nerves rising (i have a Joint sponsor and used mostly assets not income) he informed me i was approved.
i went back down to 10th floor, collected my belongings from security and was done.
interview was Tuesday 13th August, i left an express post envelope with them, on Thursday the 15th August i got an email "Notice of Issued Visa" and on Friday the 16th August i received my passport in the post!
can't get the smile off my face
