After a long wait of 6 months I had my CR1 category interview on 5th August, 2019 (8am). I stayed at L'Appartement Hôtel (455, Sherbrooke St W). The hotel is just brilliant in its service and just walking distance from Consulate. I reached the consulate around 7:05am and there was already a queue. After waiting some time, the security guard opened the door and asked people to enter one by one. After entering the consulate, the lady at the desk asked for Passport and Interview letter (I didn't get any IL in postal mail so just showed the email print). She confirmed the name from the list she had. Then she put a sticker on backside of my passport and gave me a laminated sheet which has a number written and the order of the documents. After this there is a security check where is similar like the one at any airport. Special instruction: DO NOT BRING ANY BACKPACK. If you have a backpack then security guard doesn't allow to enter and tells to go to Eaton Centre to keep bag there. You can have your mobile as I think they have a locker for that. I didn't bring any backpack and mobile phone. Instead of backpack you can carry a file to keep your documents. After the security check, the guard showed the way to go to a basement where all applicants wait and arrange their documents. After waiting in the basement, an another security guards ask all applicants to gather and then escort the group to a lift and send everyone to 19th floor. After reaching 19th floor, there is a big hall where all applicants again wait and utilize the time to arrange the documents. The order for documents should be:
1. Laminated sheet
2. Passport
3. Two passport size pictures
4. Medical envelop
5. Birth certificate and its English translation
6. Marriage certificate and its English translation.
7. Divorce certificate and its English translation.
8. Custody documents and its English translation.
9. Police certificates from Canada and any country you lived.
10. Criminal/ court record.
11. Military record.
12. Original evidence of support document signed by petitioners. Latest tax return of the petitioner and all W2s. Also, petitioner's US status proof (Naturalization certificate/US Passport copy etc.)
Make sure you have photocopy of all the above documents. If you not a Canadian citizen then you need to bring your original study permit/work permit/PR card along with photocopy.
After some time, they started calling numbers (as per laminated sheets) for document checks. My number was 5th. When I was called, the lady took my fingerprints and asked for documents one by one. If you have any update in your application then make sure you tell the officer who is checking documents. After the successful documents submission, I went back to my seat and waited for interview. As there were less people I was called to the interview window after almost 15-20 minutes. The interviewer was a lady with a smiling face. She asked me below questions while typing in her computer.
1. Who is your petitioner?
2. When you got married?
Then she confirmed the location of my wedding
3. How you guys met with each other?
I started telling her about the relationship from beginning but she interrupted me to know when we physically met for the first time?
4. Who is the additional sponsor?
I was asked this question as I had an additional sponsor.
5. Have you ever been to the US?
6. Have you ever had any problem with law enforcement officers?
7. Is your spouse working?
8. Have you travelled any other country?
9. When did you move to Canada and on which visa?
10. What you are doing?
After all this, she returned my all original documents which I submitted before and told me that everything looks okay and she is approving my visa. Though she said approval is currently not in system as they were waiting for a database update. Then she gave me white coloured "Welcome to the US" page and told me that passport would be sent back in 2 weeks. I was out of consulate in less than 1.5 hours. I got my passport back on 7th August in Toronto.
