Hi everyone,
I just had my interview this morning and now have a long wait until my flight home, so it seems like a great time to leave a review while the experience is still fresh in my mind! The whole experience was very smooth and stress-free. Reading reviews prior to the interview definitely helped me feel more prepared, so thought I would pass it on.
I spent a week in Montreal in order to get my medical done at Medisys (now called Horizon Occupational Health Solutions). I am from Saskatchewan and there are no immigration doctors out my way so it made sense financially to do everything in one trip, as Medisys requires at least 3 business days to have the medical results ready. Why not make a little vacation out of it! I stayed in an Airbnb about a 25 min walk from the embassy in order to keep costs down for my long stay. The area surrounding the embassy is great, you can walk literally anywhere and find anything you need in the area and on St. Catherine Street.
I arrived at the embassy early at about 6:45 a.m. for my 7:30 a.m. interview and was third in line. Chatting with the others in line made the time pass quickly and it was reassuring to talk to fellow VJ-er's going through the same experience. There is currently construction being done on the buildings so the entrance is a bit hidden and we were waiting under some scaffolding.
At 7:30 the security guard called us in one by one in the order we arrived. Immediately inside, I was asked for my passport and interview confirmation sheet to confirm my appt, and was then handed a laminated sheet outlining the order in which to organize my documents. After this, I went through security which is just like the airport - put your items in a bin and walk through a metal detector. Because of the long walk I'd brought my phone along, which they had me turn off before storing in the lockers and giving me a ticket so I could pick it up on my way out.
Then we went down a set of stairs to a sitting area where we had a few moments to get our documents in order. A security guard then lead us to an elevator that took us to the interview floor. There was a short wait before I was called to a window where I had my fingerprints taken, confirmed mine and my fiance's addresses, and asked for the documents pretty much as listed in the P4:
- Payment Confirmation
- Passport and photocopy of passport
- the two 2x2 photos
- Medical envelope
- Birth certificate original and photocopy (original was given back later at interview)
- Police Certificate
- Letter of Intent to Marry
- I-134F and supporting financial documents
Once this was done she gave me the pamphlet on domestic violence and I had a seat again for another few minutes. I was then called to another window for the interview portion, which took maybe 2 or 3 minutes total. The woman was very friendly and warm and asked some basic questions:
- How did we meet?
- What year did we meet?
- How long was my longest visit to the USA?
- Have I ever been arrested?
- Have either of us ever been married and do we have any kids?
- What are your wedding plans?
She then handed me the pink Welcome to the USA letter and said I should receiving my visa in about 2 weeks! I exited through the elevator and used my ticket to collect my phone on the way out.
Overall, whole process was a very smooth and easy experience and I was in and out of the building in less than an hour.
