My wife had her interview today and she was approved on the spot. Here’s a little write up for anyone about to visit the 8th floor.

We reserved a parking spot at 101 Worth St, which is right across the street from the visitor’s entrance, so about 07:40 AM we were passing through security even though we were scheduled for 08:05 AM. A few minutes after we checked in at room 800 in the 8th floor, the IO called our number, but guided us to another waiting room (100) and told us she would call us again in about 30 min. Took a bit longer than that, but she called us again shortly before 09:00 AM.

She was thorough but she was very happy we brought plenty of evidence and well organized. Que questions were what I would consider vanilla and mostly to me (USC).
How did we meet?
Who proposed?
What are my wife’s parents names?
What do they do?
When did she arrive in the US
How old was she when she arrived?
What is her highest level of education?
Where did she earn her degrees? (She only asked about the ones my wife obtained here in the US)

My wife was asked:

When did I arrive in the US?
Under what circumstances I came?
Where do I work? (this and the above were all inter-related)

The rest was all confirming information from the application and the usual “security” questions.

The interview lasted about 45 minutes in total but could have been shorter if it wasn’t for me contextualizing answers, giving additional information for the pile of documents we took and all of us chatting about similarities between our wedding and the IO’s.

Most people recommend against taking children, but we had to leave too early to drop our 4-year-old in the daycare, so we had no choice but to take her. Regardless, I have a feeling that aside from the 6-year marriage, the presence of the child and our interaction as a family sealed the deal for the IO.

10 minutes after we left the building, we got an email saying the card was in production.

Overall, it was a great experience.
