Review Topic: K1 Visa

I chose to stay at the Thistle - Terminal 5 Heathrow for some sweet runway views before my appointment in the morning.

I arrived to the embassy at around 8:45am and sat around admiring the views before taking a stroll down to the South Pavilion visa services booth at around 9:10am - my appointment was at 9:30am, and I was directed straight into security where I was asked to put all of my belongings into a tray so they could be x-ray'd and I also had to take a sip of the drink I had with me.

Once through security, I walked up through the courtyard and waited in-line with the rest of the 9:30am appointments. After the line started moving, I got my DS-160 stickered and I was directed to Level 1, and then to walk to the left, down to the end of the hall, and then left again. There is a small waiting area with 4 booths for immigrant visas.

My number was above a booth as I was walking into the waiting area. I was greeted by a man who asked for my DS-160, photos, birth certificate, ACRO report, and the affidavit of support. He took my fingerprints, and then I was told to sit back down in the waiting area until my number was called again.

Around 10-15 minutes later, I was called up and I was greeted by a friendly American woman who asked me to swear under oath that I was giving correct information. She then asked me for the petitioner's name, and asked how we met, how many times we have seen each other and whether I had ever been in trouble with the police before (I'm squeaky clean, no trace). After those few questions, she took my fingerprints a few more times, and then said 'Congratulations, we will be approving your visa today'.

I almost broke down in tears on the spot, I thanked her and walked away with tears in my eyes and a massive smile on my face.

Such a relief that this first stage is almost over! Now for the wait for visa issuance.
