Review Topic: K1 Visa

Review submitted on behalf of my Fiancee who had interview today:

Queued up outside with 10 people, it was bitterly cold morning, expected at this time of the year, so make sure to wrap up warm.

Once you get to the front, the security lady asked to see Ds 160 and passport.
(If you arrive too early, they direct you to Waitrose and ask that you return 15 mins before interview time)

After the security check outside, you enter airport style security building, where you are given containers to put bags, valuables and coat. Asked to empty out pockets. Then you enter body scanner. I had a bottle of water in my bag and was asked to take a sip it in front of the security man.

You then walk through a courtyard to get to reception. There are 2 queues, go to the visa queue. The receptionist asked to see passport again and Ds 160. She puts a sticker on your Ds 160, of your number and the window to go to. She told me to proceed to the lifts, get off 1st floor and turn left.

The k1 visa waiting area is to the left of the lifts and around the corner near the cashier.
I sat for about 2 minutes before my number was called on the screen.

9:05
The first window was an English gentleman who asked for ds160 and passport.
He gave me a folder with my X-ray inside.
Then he proceeded to go through a checklist of documents he needed.
Police certificate
Birth certificate/Affidavit of birth
Affidavit of support
Employment letter
Tax returns ( I gave him payslips but he said he didn’t need it)
1x Passport photo, which he scanned and returned to me.
He asked when I plan to go to the US and advised my visa would be valid till April 19.
He then told me to sit in the waiting room till my number was called again.

9:15
Number called to another window. This time a friendly American gentleman asked a few questions, how we met? How many times we met? Where I was born and how long I lived in the UK?

Nothing complicated. visa was approved and he started going through housekeeping of how long to expect the passport back 7-14 days.
He said he would try to expedite it so I have it back within 7 days.

Easiest part of the whole K1 process, was out by 9:25
