I know that specifics helped me a lot so here is my experience
Our appt was for 8:30. We got dropped off around 7:15 thinking we would grab a coffee and come back but there was already a line so we decided to just get in the queue. We were let in a few at a time just after 7:30. The one guard at the door is grumpy like everyone says but not a big deal. Definitely don't bring any big bags..or multiple bags!
They check your passport, put a tracking sticker and give you your #/instructions.
Next is security. Put everything in the bin including belts. They will tell you what you can keep and what to check. The checked boxes are small which is why no big bags etc. We left our phones in the locker but got to keep wallets and gum. We went to the first waiting room and were almost immediately let into the elevator. We were given sheet with our number before security and all the documents they wanted and in what order. I had organized original and then copies behind which worked out fine because you had them one by one. Once they took them ...passport, passport photos (2), birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce (if applicable), i184 and tax returns...Then they finger print you right at the desk and you sit back down.
If you want snack bring change!
Then shortly after we got called to the next window/room where they ask you the questions and give you back originals. She asked me when and how we met and a few more details about that. She asked how often we see each other and how long I have stayed in the USA. Where I had been in the last 5 years internationally. I think that was it. It went fast. I had tons of supporting docs and photo books. She didn't ask to see anything. She handed me a blue paper and said I hope you have some plans to celebrate!
I walked out and told my hubby I guess he can keep me.
Done!
Still in disbelief. 311 days and it was done by 9:20 am.
Side note, your American can be there but at both windows they didn't allow him to stay.
