The interview process was much less scary than I thought it would be. You just go in and they give you a form to fill out (with basic information) and a list of documents to put in a certain order. You wait a bit, and they call you up to look through your documents. Then you wait a little more (for us it was an hour and a half) for the interview that takes 5-10 minutes. The interview is just done at a window. Our appointment was at 9:20. We arrived at 8:30 and left at 11:15. They told us the visa takes two weeks to receive by mail.

You can't take your cell phone in, so you have to give it to the people on the street to keep, which is R$10. Just be aware of it and bring the R$10 Also, there's a play area in the waiting room with toys in case you have to take your kids. The whole thing is pretty casual (well, as casual as it can be). Everyone was perfectly nice and helpful. The consulate is also pretty conveniently located right by the subway station, so you don't need to stay at a hotel nearby.
