So here's my review of my husband's visa journey. I traveled with him all the way to the window.
We arrived at the parking lot around 6 am (if you want to be the first one, have a driver drop you off or else wait if you want to). We had to wait in car line until 6 and then we went in. after parking, we went and stood in the bus ticket line (which was one) and there were 2 people working behind counter. I showed my US passport and my hubby his passport and we got our ticket. we stood in security line and then as soon as we stood there, buses started to come so were like 39 person to climb in. After 20 mins ride, we arrived at the embassy and again stood in line for entrance. People with US passport were going in, especially the petitioners. we were given a token (there were many relative immigrant visa people it seems). The Pakistani guy up in the front was all smiley when he asked if I was the petitioner and came to pick him up and i laughed saying yes. He stapled our token to our interview letter.
We stood in line for security check. Now they tell you to deposit your phone and key around bus counter but if you do bring it, they take it at the entrance of the embassy when you go through the security. They give you a token for it. The same goes with your purse check and you happen to have liquid stuff. Everyone was nice all through out.
Then we go in and wait for our turn. We were called 3 times. First time for our finger prints and given the rights and courier service information.
Second time was for paper collection. They do not collect police certificate (although my hubby insisted we had it made but it was not needed as I told him). They took his number for the visa pick-up. took his medical and opened it and our marriage certificate and nikkah nama and his birth cert. the lady also took his passport and i offered his old one but it was not needed.
Then we waited for our interview turn. After 10-15 mins we were called for interview (btw at this point they were randomly calling people for interview and i believe it was based on the language of interview choice and category type). People before us had to wait their turn. anyways we went upto the window and my hubby said: "Hi, how are you?" She said she is good.
I said Hi and smiled like I do all the time.
She asked whether I was the petitioner and my hubby and I said yes.
Here's how the interview went:
CO: How did you guys meet? (I thought she meant my hubby but she meant me).
Hubby: answered
CO: How long you have been here maam?
Me: answered (told her i came to pick him up and she laughed)
CO: Is this both your first marriage?
Me and Hubby: Yes
CO: I am sorry you said you never traveled outside the country?
Hubby: answered (He had to correct her but I wondered why she asked that since me and him went on our honeymoon)
That was it. After a second of typing, she said "I am approving your visa. You should have it ready in 10 days. You are done here."
She was really nice and me and hubby thanked her and walked out all smiles. Because of the happiness, I forgot to ask her about the green card and where to pick up the passport information.
Anyways, here's another thing we noticed since we sat near the window. They were asking a whole lot of questions to people who chose to give Urdu interview. The americans were nice but our Pakistani were intimidating. They asked a lot of questions to most spouse, however with us she didn't ask much. She didn't even ask us to see the pics but with others they did. There were 3 total COs.
She saw that we were organized and knew what we were doing because there was not one thing missing from our file.
Be confident people, do not hide anything and do not lie. There were certain people who were like that. Take everything they ask for.
Now on to better life.
Best of luck to everyone else!
