This is what my fiancee experienced during her interview.
Her interview was at 7.30 am. The consulate security asked people with appointments at that time to queue up. After security screening, the consulate staff led the queue to a big room with several about 14 windows and several seats. They gave each person a token number. The elderly folks, people needing special assistance, and people with kids were given the first token numbers.
One of the consulate staff spoke to her and arranged the papers in a sequence of appointment letter, birth certificate, police certificate and medical reports.
An indian consulate officer asked her to come to a window and looked at her papers first. Since my fiancee had been in the US before, he asked her about her past visa stamps and her work briefly. He also handed her information about domestic violence and rights in the US.
The second consulate officer was an American officer who asked her questions
- Who is calling you to the US?
- where does your fiancee work?
- what is his work about?
- what is his phone number?
- how did you guys meet?
- how did both decide on getting married?
- how many times did you meet before getting engaged?
- where did you live in the US before? What do you do there?
After this conversation, he said we are approving your visa.
