Well I arrived in London the night before and found accommodation using air b&b and had a very.... interesting experience there, but that's besides the point.
My interview was 9.30am but on the recommendation of fellow VJ users I got there early and ended up arriving around 7.40am. The queue was already huge so I'd recommend striving for 7am arrival if possible. I was directed towards the immigrant visa queue and somehow ended up in the line for 8am appointments (and didn't bother to mention mine was 9.30 :P) and was outside until about 8.10am. When I got into the embassy, I was given the ticket I915 which meant I was the 15th immigrant visa they were processing that morning. They were on I903 when I sat down and I waited about an hour before being called to window 1. It seemed that about four of the twenty five windows were calling I numbers and the rest were other types of visas. At the first window I was asked for my affidavit of support, police certificate (returned to me at the second window) birth certificate (also returned to me at the second window) and my visa sized photo which was scanned and then returned to me. She looked at my affidavit of support and asked, "who's Daniel?" to which I answered, my fiance. Not sure if that was a trick question or not to test the waters. I offered an additional affidavit of support from his mum and she said it wasn't needed and not to worry as K1s were simple. She then told me to sit back down and that I'd be called again. I then waited for about another thirty minutes and was called to window fifteen. There was someone already at the window so I waited until he was done. I had an american woman in her early thirties interview me. She swore me in with the oath, and then asked how it came to be that I was engaged to an american. I explained we met at a summer camp. She asked me when we last saw each other and I explained I had recently flown back having spent christmas out there (and told her the date I flew home). She then asked what he did for a living, and what I did for a living. She then said she was very happy to approve our visa and I beamed like a cheshire cat and tried very hard not to cry, whilst frantically dialling Dan (poor thing, it was 2am for him!) as I exited the building. Overall I think I was there for about 2.5 hours.
Definitely nothing to worry about, just be yourself, be honest and you'll be fine! Get there early though!
