My fiance (beneficiary) and I (petitioner) went to the interview together. Our interview was at 7:40 am on 8/29/14 but Montreal is first come, first serve so the time means nothing! We got there at 7:15 am, there was no one else on line at the time but many people showed up shortly after. Around 7:45 a guard came down to open the door and let everyone in. When we got inside to the immediate left there was a woman that needed to see Canadian identification, the DS-160 barcode page, and the interview confirmation page. She also wanted to see my U.S. Passport.
We turned around and we were greeted by a guard who wanted to see both of our IDs, then he lead us to the metal detector. We knew we couldn't bring any bags, cell phones, or car keys with a remote so we had nothing in our pockets except IDs and money. We put those in the bin with the folder of interview stuff I brought and we went through. After that we were led into a vast waiting room with a lot of chairs, we walked all the way to the end to take seats right next to the elevator. For people who forget to take passport photos there's a photo booth for you to take last minute photos, I think it costs $10.
We waited for what seemed like forever (I think 25 minutes?) for the room to fill up with people. A guard came down and told everyone to line up in front of the elevator and people went nuts! We got pushed around a lot until the doors opened, then everyone made a mad dash inside. My fiance and I got to the back corner by the other set of doors. We were squeezed in pretty good, there were at least 30 people in with us, no joke. When we got up to the 19th floor and the doors opened this old couple shoved us and got to the reception desk first, I had quite a few choice words for them!
My fiance had to show the reception lady his confirmation stuff and I had to show my passport, then we were given ticket "A-2" and we took a seat to wait. Waited about 20 minutes and then we were called to Window 2. We were greeted by a nice guy, he looked at our IDs, took my fiance's police certificate, verified my address (just mine, not my fiance's), then he took my fiance's finger prints. He took my I-134 and then we were told to go have a seat to wait for the actual interview. Ten minutes later we were called, we were greeted by a not-so-pleasant woman who told me I could not be with my fiance so I went to sit back down.
The interview lasted maybe 10 minutes, my fiance came back with a 221G for an original birth certificate (I warned him NOT to bring a photocopy and he did it anyway, ugh!). He said the woman was rude and spoke too fast, he had a difficult time understanding the interviewer and that apparently annoyed her. English is not my fiance's first language but he can speak it pretty much perfect. He told me basic questions were asked* and that the interviewer kept confusing dates of certain events (like when we met and when he came to Canada from Korea, and other stuff) I guess to trip him up? I don't know because *I* wasn't there, however the couple that went after us got to stay together! WTH!?
Overall it was an okay experience I guess.
