My interview was on 9 January 2007 at 0800 in Zagreb, CRO. I had it rescheduled from 14 December 2006 as I did not have enough time to do the medical exam in Zagreb, and collect the papers they required in time.
The embassy is a bit outside the city towards the airport so we took the 268 bus for Velika Gorica from the main bus station at 0710 and arrived there before 0745. The guard first let in people who had the appointment for 0745 and once they were in, the 0800 people were allowed in. I thought all the people for the immigrant visa but it turned out they were there for tourist visas, and I was the only one for immigrant visa.
The guard in the waiting section asked what type of visa I needed and once I told him, he got on the phone and called the local lady. The immigrant visa window opened and the local lady wished me a good day, asked about the originals police and court records, birth certificate, I-864EZ, tax return forms from hubby, W-2s, military records... Whatever she asked for I had ready and handed in. Then she gave me a copy of my medical exam papers and went to cashiers so I can pay for visa $380. After that told me I should be all set, everything looks ok and I should wait to be called for the interview. Gave me the Welcome to US paper, and info on lifting of conditions paperwork.
The consular officer who interviewed me was a very nice, younger lady. She asked the usual questions - where and how we met, how long we dated before getting married, where are we living now, what is my husband's favorite meal... Then she congratulated me and told me that visa will be issued as soon as possible and that I should take a seat in the waiting area. Before that, fingerprinting. Interview was done before 0845.
I waited until 0940 when the visa was in my passport and I was given the big brown envelope with special emphasis not to pack it in the regular bags but to keep it with me at all times as it needs to be given at POE. More instructions on how to update my SSN card and when my GC will arrive and what to do if it is not there in 3 weeks.
