Luckily, my plane seat was right by the exit door of the aircraft for when I landed. I walked to Immigration and was told to enter the Visitors line for the K1 visa. I waited for 5 minutes and was seen by a lady who asked me, why I was visiting and if my fiancé was travelling with me. She then said: let's go process your paperwork and took my passport and big envelope to a room.

A gentleman came out of an interview room, took my passport and paperwork back into the room while I waited outside. I could hear him open the envelope and begin stamping some papers. 10 minutes later, he called my name and I entered the room, he showed me visa and said you have 90 days to get married. Don't leave the country unless you have advanced parole otherwise you won't enter the States again on the same status. Good luck. And that was it. Simple entry.

Entry was fine. They had me sit to the side for a little while, probably trying to intimidate me but I didn't do anything wrong so I wasn't worried about anything.

I entered on a B-2 visa. Since I had been in the US for 3 months in the fall they had me come in to see an official who was asking me all kind of questions. Why my boyfriend had not filed for me yet. I said we were going to get married in the summer in the Netherlands, which was our plan. And we were still figuring things out how to do everything with us being from 2 different countries. He also asked if I had enough money to be able to travel like this and was asking me how much and how I had earned it etc. I was allowed in for 6 months.

Unfortunately my flight was delayed abut 30 minutes which resulted in us landing at the same time as another very large flight. As we taxied in, our captain came on the intercom and said "If you look out the left windows you'll see a plane with about 500 passengers who will all want to get through customs before you. Good luck!"

So, it took over an hour for me to get from my plane through the first customs check where I handed over my passport and sealed envelope(s) and chest x-ray CD. He took my photo, fingerprints, and then led me through to Secondary, where I had to wait for about 30 minutes for them to finish with a few other travellers - mostly ones with incorrect visas or suspicious travel activity. Finally the officer got round to going though my papers, which he flicked through, put my details into the system, then called me up to the desk and told me I had 90 days to get married and adjust my status, and wished me luck!

He didn't ask any questions at all. He even gave me back the CD of my x-ray and told me they didn't need it at all.

My only issue was once I was let out to go pick up my bag I had to spend some time trying to locate it, as the baggage handler moved it to a holding area because it looked like it was abandoned. She said she was about to come ask in Secondary if someone owned it!

Once I got my bag, I had to line up again to go through another "Secondary" check of my passport, (again, no questions, just checking that my face matched my passport) and then I was free!

All-in-all, a very smooth, if slow, process.
