Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My husband arrived for his interview on Thursday May 26 at 9 am, I was hoping to accompany him but since I wasn't on the "list" I couldn't get in.

The interview was pretty standard, the first CO looked at his civil documents (originals with translations) ... He was told his police certificate was expired, but it clearly wasn't (as per the directions on the interview letter he obtained it less than a year before the interview) .. When bringing this to the CO's attention he said to my husband "don't tell me how to do my job" ... Smh

The next CO conducted the interview...
*how did you meet your wife?
*what website did you meet her on?
*what do you talk about?
*where was she born?
*does she have any siblings/ what are their names?

He asked a few more general questions of this nature, looked at our message history and call logs and photographs. Afterwards he gave my husband a pink slip of paper saying to come back in 1 week to pick up his visa...

So, after 1 week, we returned to the embassy only to be told that his visa was not ready yet and not given a specific reason why, and that they would call him when it was ready. This became very frustrating because we did not know how long we were to wait. The next week, I called the embassy everyday trying to get answers with no avail. Also I was checking CEAC ... On June 8th the ceac status changed to ISSUED.

All the time spent waiting was very stressful and the embassy is hard to reach and they are most of the time no help unless you are an American talking to another American ... After being told his visa was printed and ready by 2 different embassy people on the phone, we were told to go to the embassy weds June 15, only to be turned away yet again becuse his port of entry packet wasn't ready yet. At this point I was fuming angry. I called immediately after he came out with no visa in hand yet again, they said to return after two days and it would be ready...

So, third times a charm I guess and on Friday June 17 my husband received his visa and his entrance packet.

I give the embassy 1 out of 5 stars only because my husband actually received his visa, ... Other than that I find they are difficult to deal with and you practically have to harass them to get answers.

Hi everybody,
My interview was fast and smooth hamdoullah. My interview was sceduled yesterday at 9am. we were allowed to enter the embassy at 8:45am. The security checked our passport then allowed us to enter. The room was full, many people were waiting. I was so stressed and nervous. Finally it was my turn( around 11am) , someone called me in one of the windows and asked me to give him my documents:Birth certificate( with your marriage registred there) and translation/Your husband tax ( the last one )/Police certificate and translation /divorce drecree with translation /3 photos/Marriage certificate with translation/
the interviewer was nice , he asked me few questions: your husband name?/where and when have you met?he asked about the name of the website because we met online? what's your husband status in US and how did he get that status/when and where did you get married?he aske me to show him some photos of our marriage/ what's my husband job? and where does he work?
Do you have other relatives who live in US ?what's their staus? how did they get that status: through marriage or green card lottery? then he asked me to come back next wednesday to pick up my passport.
PS: Just keep calm, be confident, tell the truth and prepare all the documents requested. Gooooood luck to everyone

He arrived around 8 for his interview scheduled at 9am. He said he was called first out of 36 that were there for interviews. He brought all of the paperwork that was listed on the appointment letter plus I sent him all of the originals sent to me from the US government, a letter from my employer, the affidavit of support, tax returns from the past two years, our phone records, and a copy of the petition. He also brought a scrapbook of our photos that was made by my step-mom.

He said the interviewer asked if he preferred French or English, and he chose English.
The questions that were asked were not what we were expecting. (We thought they would only ask what they could actually verify, things that were listed on the petition.) He said there were about 50 questions, mostly about how we met, how many times we have been together in person, what we did when I came over, how many times I met his family, if I met the family on my first trip. A few more he didn't remember. He answered honestly and the guy told him to come pick up the visa on Tuesday! Oh, and they briefly looked over the papers that I sent, but gave them back to him. Overall, he said it was alot easier than he expected.
The problem that we had with this consulate was the scheduling of the interview. We practically had to harrass them for an interview date. Other than that, it was ok!

He had a short wait and they called him up to the window. They asked for his passport, birth certificate, police record, then they proceeded to take his finger prints.

Interview: The inspector was cordial but not nice. The interview was conducted in English, was not asked if preferred English or Arabic. The entire interview lasted 30 minutes. Be prepared for some hard questions. He asked the same questions in several different types of ways. We suspect to see if my fiancé would answer the same each time.

Example of some questions asked:
Fiancée mother and father name
Fiancée have any brother and sisters?
Where does your fiancée work?
What type of work does she do?
Did she attend college?
IF you have been married before, prepare your fiancé for many questions concerning your previous marriage.
Why did they divorce?
Where did your fiancé meet her ex-husband?
How long was this marriage?
Why do you think your marriage will last and her previous marriage did not?
Do you know her ex-husband?

Questions that we were expecting was never ever asked! So all we can say is make sure your fiancée knows every little detail about you and your life. Nothing is off limits on the questions they can ask. My fiancée said, just listen close to each question and if you do not understand the question just ask the interviewer to repeat it. Answer each question with the shortest answer possible.

At the end of the interview, the inspector said you will be contacted with an answer. My fiancé asked so am I approved??? The inspector said you will be contacted with an answer. My fiancé said how will I be contacted? He said you will be contacted with an answer. He never would give a straight answer. VERY frustrating!
