Our interview date was 5/24/07. We had a problem similar to others I have read about here in that there wasn't quite enough time to get all the documents together. We received the interview date on 05/10/07 -- two weeks before the interview and one of the documents (Antecedents de Judiciales) takes longer to get so it wasn't ready on the day of the interview.
We went to the embassy very early in the morning (7:30). There was a line outside but it was not very long. We were admitted inside the embassy exterior wall and proceeded to the area near the entry door. There were alot of people waiting outside but I beleive they were waiting for other types of visas because we were alowed to enter the embassy very quickly since we had papers for the K-1 visa. Our actual appointment time was 9:30 but we were called to the first window within less than 1/2 hour. The women at this window was very knowledgeble and very polite. She was Peruvian and she spoke mostly spaninsh but was able to speak a little english to me. We showed her all our paperwork and then she asked for our reciept for our application payment form the day before. My finace had forgot to bring this. We asked if she could quickly run home to get it and the women said that was OK. My finace raced home, got the receipt and came back. All the people at the windows were on break by then so we had to wait about 15 minutes until the same women was back at her window. We then submitted the receipt to her and she told us to wait and we would be called again. About 1/2 hour later (it is about 10:00 by now) we were called to a different window that was a private room. We entered the room (me, my finace and her 2 children) and sat down. This was an american women and she spoke mostly to me. She warned me that many latino women use American men to get the visa only and made sure I was aware I was financially responsible for all of them when they came to the States. She asked Nirza where and when we met. She spoke very little to Nirza, most of her questons were for me. She asked about my prior marriages and why I choose to find a finace in Peru rather than America.
After many more questions along this same line she said we were approved subject to reciept and review of the Antecedents de Judiciales. We submitted these papers the following day (5/25/2007) to DHL for delivery to the embassy. We are still waiting for the visas to be issued as of 05-30-2007.
Overall, I was very pleased with the way we were treated.

Greetings in H.I.M name
let is be praised

So Marilyn arrived 15 min. before her interview. She entered normally, then in about 15 min. a lady called her to the first window. She asked Marilyn for all the documents she had to fill out, then she asked for all the documents I had to fill out and send to Marilyn. After that she looked at the evidence that we sent to prove we had a valid relation still. She asked her some questions which were;
How does she know me? In what month of what year?
What is my name?
Where I live?
How old am I?
what do I do for work?
When was the first time we saw each other?
What month and year did i come?
after she asked Mari if she was married before and divorced?
If she has children?
If she has any relatives in the USA?
Those were all the questions that lady at the first window asked Mari
Then she told Mari to take a seat and she will be called up
She waited about an hour to be called to window two where she was inteviewed by some man. He looked at her documents again and asked her the same questions as the lady.
This is when he told her that she has to have me send her my last 3 years of my tax statements, and to send that with her passport to DHL.
That was the invterview

We had our interview at 915 in the morning we got there an hour early. the lady working on the line was a real bitch. we tried to go to the gate but she yelled at us and told us first to stay in line in front of her then 20mins later she moved us to a second line then she pointed at us and told us to get to the end of the line, very rude. we finally get in and sit in the back so we are comfy and we are called up three times. first was for her ds forms the lady was nice. second time was for some of my info. how we met how long we have been together ect ect. third time we were called up for my tax review and the guy was very nice he joked with us and told us that we were approved. the only problem we had was the bitch out side. other then that it went smooth. you dont have anything to worry about as long as you have all you proper paper work. good luck. took 4 hour to get our approval.

Our interview date was 3/12/07. The main problem that we had was that there wasn't quite enough time to get the documents together. We only received the interview date on 02/26/07 -- two weeks before the interview and one of the documents (Antecedents de Judiciales) takes 15 days so it wasn't ready on the day of the interview.

The interview itself was pretty easy and is nothing to worry about. I accompanied Betty throughout the interview.

Our appointment was for 7:45 AM. We arrived at the embassy at 7:15 and that was about right. There were several guards (Peruvians) walking down the line outside the embassy checking to make sure that we had all of the documents that we would need inside. One of the guards told us that one of Betty's forms (DS-156), which she had filled out by hand, needed to be filled out and printed via a computer. I just told Betty to ignore her as the form plainly stated to "TYPE OR PRINT CLEARLY." Although this made Betty pretty nervous, she followed my advice and, sure enough, there was not a problem.

Inside the embassy, our experience was like everyone else's -- waiting on benches until called to one of 3 windows. We were called to the first window just before 8 AM. At that window, the woman wanted her documents and a few photos. We gave her 5 photos and she took them all (we had lots more with us but that was all that she wanted). We only spoke spanish at this window and we were at the window for less than 15 seconds.

At the second window, Betty was asked:

1. How/when did you meet (internet/August, '06).
2. My age (there's a 23-year age difference)
3. How many times I had been married (3)
4. Where/when did we meet in person for the first time (Lima/Sept. '06).
5. How many times had I been to Peru since we first met (4).
6. How many days total had we been together (>75).

We were then asked to sit down. Again, all conversation was in spanish and we were at this window for no more than 2 minutes.

At the third window was the first (and only) American. He appeared to be in his mid 30's, blonde, a little pudgy, no glasses. He seemed to speak essentially no spanish and all conversation was in English. He simply said that, once Betty turned in the missing form, she would be approved and gave us instructions for returning the form and passport in the next day or so. We were at this window about 30 seconds.

We left the embassy about 8:30 AM.

We put the form and passport in DHL the next day, 03/13, per the instructions and it was delivered to the embassy on Wednesday, 03/14. Betty received her visa about 3:30 pm Thursday, 03/15.

The visa interview process in Lima was straight-forward with no surprises. We arrived at the Embassy for a 9:00 AM interview at 8:30 AM.

After passing through security, you enter another checkpoint. From there, you sit in a waiting area by windows 9-14. Everything before window 9 is for non-immigrant applicants. Window 15 is actually secured by a door for private interviews apparently. Looking around, we saw few couples but many families. One family of six had won the visa lottery.

At 9:00 exactly, they called my fiancée to window 14. The lady was patient and asked for the I-156 (2 copies w/ photos), I-156K, her passport, and visa payment receipt. Note that the156K form that the Embassy sends you is ancient compared to the one on the Internet. You will be asked for the first.

After 15 min, my fiancée was then called to window 10. I was told to sit down while she was asked for everything else (3 police reports, medical exam -- you get back the x-rays, 6 photos, affidavit of support, birth certificate). The lady was a bit surly in the sense that she was very impatient with my nervous fiancée and quickly tossed back docs she didn’t want from the affidavit of support. My fiancée was asked several brief questions about where I had learned my Spanish and when we had met.

After 20 min, she was called to window 9, and I joined her. We thought we were headed to window/door) 15 because everybody else was going there. At window 9, we talked with an American consular officer. There is not much privacy as everybody in the room can hear the conversation. She had the original app in front of her. First, she took her fingerprints. After a series of 10-12 questions including how/where we met, financial support, her level of English, parents, and small talk, she said, “As long as the fingerprints don’t reveal you as criminal, the visa will be approved in the afternoon.” Yay! I found that check to be odd given the 3 police reports. We were told to go to the DHL booth and arrange for delivery. In all, about one hour inside the Embassy!

Several recs: bring both the original birth certificate and a copy of it. Show the original but leave the copy with the Embassy. When we asked the American consular how we can get back the original, she said everything will be sent in the secure brown envelope with the passport. She was vague about whether we ask for it back at POE, but we will try.

The process is very easy, but be prepared as everything happens fast. Leave time for the queue to get in (don’t assume the guards will let you jump the line with the invitation letter).
