Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Being from Norway we have to go through the embassy in Stockholm for all immigrant visas.
I flew in the day before my appointment since it was schedule fro 8:30am and no flights arrive early enough from Norway to make it there in time. Stayed at the Riddergatan Hotel which was actually very nice and pretty affordable. It was in walking distance from both the embassy and the train station (about 15 min from the station and 20 min from the embassy).

Embassy opens at 8:00am, but I was there at 7:50am, and they already started to let people in. It was just me and another person waiting. Went through security with just one slight hitch, I brought tons of letters that my wife had written me over the years (as evidence of bonafide marriage), when they sent them through the xray they saw that one of the letters contained some small electronics. I then had to go through all the cards to figure out which one it was (around 50 letters/cards), but it turns out it was a Twilight card that played music, that she sent me as a joke for my birthday once. The security officer was not amused though, even If I chuckled when I saw what it was.

Anyway, continued in to the embassy where I was directed to window G. Handed in my updated police certificate, an original court record and translations of everything. Also handed in all the evidence I had for proof of bonafide marriage. Then the person in the window gave me my medical exam sent from Norway and told me how long it was valid for, and then proceded asked me when I met my wife, which was just a warm up question I guess, cause he didnt ask anymore questions and told me to take a seat.

I waited for maybe 5 min, before I was called to window D. This was at approximately 8:20am which was 10 min before my scheduled interview time. A very nice consular lady asked me to raise my right hand and read an oath that was printed on the window. She then proceded to ask me the following questions:

Where did you meet?
Why do you want to move to the US and not have her move to Norway?
Did you have the wedding in Norway?
Were both your parents there?
Is the marriage recognized by the US? (I needed her to clarify, but she just wanted to know if Norway marriages where valid world wide)
What do you do for work?
When will you move to the US ?

She then said "I'm gonna go ahead and approve your visa". :joy: Everything was done in about 10 min. It was a very friendly and relaxed experience. We had some good laughs when I told her our story. She then asked if I had any questions, and I just asked her some basic stuff about the package I'd receive and so on. All in all a very good experience, and I got very worked up for nothing.

Sorry for the typos, too much excitement!

Arrived early in the morning as the 2nd applicant, 30 minutes before my interview. The interviewer was a nice young lady, and it was done quick. Gathered a lot of proof, which helped. I was notified instantly that my application was approved, and was out in an hour after arriving. Over all great experience.

It took 12 min to pass the security check, hand over the paperwork they asked for and answer a few basic questions and get out again. Easy

Review Topic: K1 Visa

Arrived at the embassy at 8:30 for my 9:00 appointment. Two people were ahead of me in the immigrant line inside the embassy. Gave the Swedish guy all my paperwork, and was told that my police certificate was not accepted because it was in Norwegian. I had translated it myself and "certified" it according to USCIS recommendations, but since he knew I could get it in English, I had no luck reasoning with him..

I had prepared lots of information to prove that we have an ongoing relationship, but they did not want it.

So I sat down, waited for 1.5 hours or so, and had my interview. The little old lady started off by asking "Tell my about your future wife", and I told her how we met and what she is like. Other questions seemed more random, like "What does your fiancee love and hate", "What do you like to do together", "Where will you be living", "Who will control the finances", "Does she like your cooking" "How much did she make last year", "Does your family like her" as well as some follow up questions to these. My fiancee is a naturalized citizen, so she was very interested in how she came to the US and how and when her parents came. I didn't really know all the details as to who petitioned for who, but it didn't really matter.

After a 10 minute interview, I was approved, given that I can present an original police certificate in English or a certified translation. (I called the police right after the interview, and they will send it out tomorrow ) I actually saw the big red "Approved" stamp on my application before the interview started, but I am not sure if that was from earlier in the process or the "final approval".

In total, I spent 2 hours at the embassy.

Visa approved!! Thanks everyone for all your help!!!!

A blonde American lady in her 50s greeted me with a smile and said "I see you had a wonderful wedding in Hawaii!" To which I answered "yes, perfect place to do it!" She then said "yes, I saw the pictures!"

I was in a haze for most of the interview, but from what I remember the questions went something like this from there on:

- So when was the wedding?
- And where did you meet?
- And where did you go to school? (I went to school in the US)
- What made you choose that school?
- So tell me how the relationship progressed.
- What's something about her that you love, and what's something that irritates you?
- How long were you two together in the US?
- Why now all of a sudden did you guys choose to go to the US?
- What do you do for work?
- What will you be doing in the US?
- Who will be managing you guys\' finances?

- Ok, well I'm going to authorize your visa. We haven't been able to run a name check yet though so I'm going to do that now, it'll take about 30 minutes. If nothing comes up you're all set, so just take a seat.

My name was called up 5 minutes later and I was told "All clear! You'll have your passport and everything you need in two weeks!"

One thing that puzzled me is I was never asked to raise my hand and \"swear to tell the truth.\" The interview just started as a nice conversation and was over in about 5 minutes. I was not asked for any proof, though I had a folder full of pictures just in case.

Visa Journey over for now.

*Update: I'm not able to give the Stockholm embassy a full 5 stars. While they were extremely kind and efficient at the actual interview, dealing with them since was a nightmare. 4 weeks went by after the interview and I heard nothing. Their email replies were all limited to "We haven't sent your visa yet, you'll hear from us." 4 weeks after the interview, I finally woke up from a phone call from the embassy in Oslo telling me they had my case and needed me to come pick it up and sign DS-230 part 2.
