Review Topic: K1 Visa

Fiance's appointment was scheduled for 8am. He arrived at 7am and said there was a long line of people waiting outside already. His friend accompanied him but they did not let him into the embassy. He passed through 2 security checkpoints and at one he was asked to open the medical packet.

Once inside he waited until his number was called (was given a number upon entering) and was attended first by a Nicaraguan official (woman). He said she was very nice. She asked him for the following documents:

- DS-160 *
- I-134*
- Cedula original (no fotocopia)*
- Exámenes médicos*
- Pasaporte*
- certificado de soltería from Registro Civil in Managua*
- copia de confirmacion de aprobacion de peticion K-1 de USCIS (copy of NOA2)

She asked him the following questions:

Cual es su cumpleano de su novia?
Ella tiene hijos?
Usted tiene hijos?
Cuanto gana tu novia?

The lady kept all the forms he passed to her and asked him to sit back down until he was called to a window to speak to an American official. She passed on all the documents to the official. When he was finally called up to the window he was asked to give support for the ongoing relationship. The American was male and my fiancé said he was a friendly and calm person. My fiance submitted the following:

- fotos de la visita mas reciente que yo (novia) hice a Nicaragua
- boletos de avion de mi viaje (yo la novia) a Nicaragua
- Recibos de compras y actividades que hicimos juntos durante mi visita
- tarjetas de san valentin y felicitacion de su promocion que le mande en el ultimo ano.

He asked my fiancé the following questions:

- En que trabaja su novia? / Que es su ocupacion?
- En que trabaja su padre de su novia?
- Cuando se comprometieron?
- Porque se comprometio con ella?
- Cuantas veces la has visto en persona?
- Cuando era la ultima vez que ella vino a visitarte?
- Quien estara presente en su boda?

My fiancé says that they gave him back the following documents (le regresaron los documentos siguientes):

- cedula original
- fotos y evidencia (tarjetas, boletos, etc)
- certificado de solteria
- Declaraciones de impuestos
- recibo de pago de visa
- copia de confirmacion de aprobacion de peticion K-1 de USCIS (copy of NOA2)

They said the photos of most recent visit, greeting cards, plane tickets of the visit and his responses to the questions were sufficient evidence to prove the relationship is legitimate and that he was approved. javascript:emoticon('')

These are the following documents that my fiancé took with him that they DID NOT ask for / estos son los documentos que mi novio llevo a la cita pero NO SE LO PIDERON:

- prueba de ciudadania estadounidense de peticionaria, o sea la copia de pasaporte de peticionaria. (creo porque yo trabaje por una agencia del gobierno estadounidense pudieron verificar que yo era estadounidense)
- acta de nacimiento de beneficiario certificado por registro civil (creo por que presento su cedula. en verdad no se.)
- paquete de evidencia de chat por face, correos electronicos, registros de llamadas por Skype y cellular, photos publicados en facebook de los ultimos 8 meses.

They told him he would receive his passport with visa, at the location he selected on www.ustraveldocs.com when he scheduled his appointment, in 3 - 6 business days.

I was not present for the interview which made me more nervous for him but with sufficient evidence and well prepared answers to the questions he was able to successfully complete the interview. Just in case it helped out, I did place in the album of photos of my most recent visit a picture with him and some of his family members with me holding up a sign saying the following: "I badly wanted to be this interview but I spent all my vacation days for an amazing 2 weeks with him and his family. He is the love of my life and can't wait to start my life with him. Thank you for your consideration."

Hope this was helpful! Feel free to PM me for any further information!

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My husband (the beneficiary) n I got there at a little after 7am, the appointment was at 8am. At the front desk the lady gave us a number and we had to wait there for a while until it was called. At the first window we gave the lady all of our paperwork - our case was expedited, so this was the first time they reviewed the AOS and IV packages. We also gave her the pictures we brought, the phone records, the wedding invitation, n papers about my trips to see him. After she reviewed everything, she asked us how we met, and how long we have been together. After we told her our story, she asked us to pay the IV fee, and then told us to wait to be called to the next window. After a while more we were called to the next window, where a guy took my husband's fingerprints, and asked him where I work, what my birthday was, what he wanted to do when he got to the states (he said study and work), what year we met and when did we started going out officially, and when did we get married. After that he told us the visa was approved n to follow the instructions on the paper he gave us.
Everyone was very professional and nice, the two people that interviewed us laughed n smiled with us. We were a little nervous, but it felt good.

Once we got past security and inside the embassy, they asked for the medical exam papers. They were sealed as directed by the doctor. They said we had to open them. I grabbed one to open and they said I couldn't open it there. They made my fiance (the beneficiary) go back outside the embassy to open the papers from the medical exam. Then she had to re-clear security and come back to me. that made me feel like i was back in the states! Bureaucracy at its dumbest.

Once inside, we were asked the standard questions that other people have mentioned by two different people. How did we meet, why is the wedding in the USA, what is my job and birthday. They didnt ask me anything. They didnt ask her son anything either. Then we got a paper that said once we submitted our DS 160, we would be approved. There were directions on the letter how to mail it.

That is frustrating because they would not schedule the appointment until we electronically filed the ds 160. That took us days to do as I had to translate every question on the form to my fiance and explain to her how to digitally sign it....all over the phone. Then we had to repeat the process for both of her kids.

I do not know how to print an internet form that is on 4 different internet pages!?!

One other weird thing. I expected them to take her passport and the passport of the children. They did not do that....but they said they would send her passports when they received the ds-160's....weird!

In the end, I am extremely happy we got approved, but worry about potential delays with more paperwork. The embassy people were very nice, but I am not sure they understand what is truly required.

The consulate is pretty quick about responding to emails. They got back to me within a few hours if I emailed them before 3pm. However, the content of the responses was not great. If I asked more than one question per email, they would pick the least important question and answer only that.

We made a mistake on the DS-160 (school dates) and emailed the consulate. They said that the consular officer would change it during the interview. The consular officer said he had no way to change the DS-160, so we shouldn't worry about it. If we had made a serious mistake, such as a DOB or name, I don't know what we would have done.

The packet 3/4 you get says to bring the I-864. Another K1 couple said that they emailed about this and were told to bring the I-134. They took both from me for some reason.

At the first window, we were asked what year we met. Neither of us were sure on the year, and I didn't want to say anything wrong, so I flipped through my passport & found the year. Then we were asked how we met, how many times I'd been to visit, when he proposed, and how we communicate when apart. For the actual interview, my fiance was asked how we met, how he proposed, what my job was, and why we'd get married in the US and not Nicaragua. That was really all he asked!

When we were leaving, the security people didn't believe that we hadn't brought cell phones. We had to argue with them before we could leave.

The consulate lost the DS-160 confirmation page and tried to call my fiance, but he lost his phone. When the visa wasn't ready after 2 weeks, I inquired with NVC. They sent a request to the consulate, but the consulate didn't reply within the set timeframe. I directly emailed the consulate, and they replied to me in 10 minutes! I gave them my fiance's phone number, but at that point the consulate's phone didn't work. Gah! Eventually we got an appointment worked out via email. I asked if he needed to bring anything else, or just drop off the DS-160, and they didn't answer. He was refused entry to the consulate, so I had to call & get the appointment letter from the NVC figured out while he sat outside. The ciber down the street charged him $10 a page to print stuff, after initially saying $30 a page!

When he picked up the passport/visa in Rivas, he needed to have the appointment letter from the interview with the sticker they put on it - just printing the appointment letter wasn't good enough.
