I had my interview last week at the consulate in Amsterdam. The people were very friendly. I made sure to have all my paperwork good and ready to go. I made copies of everything and they did ask for photocopies and the originals. They asked how we met and were very kind. It was a really good experience. The total was about 30 minutes (including the wait). I received my passport with the visa in the mail yesterday. They work really fast
So now I can go to my fiance and plan the wedding!

When I finely got the letter from the consulate in Amsterdam, the whole planning began. You have to fill in forms, get your checklist items ready, and send it all back to the consulate. Then they can schedule your interview. Together with the date and time of your interview, you get the telephone number of the doctor you have to see.

A week before your interview you get your medical check and chest x-ray. They check your vaccinations (when you call for an appointment you can request which ones you need). I did that so I could let that be done by my own doctor. I had to have BMR and DTP, They also check your heart, lungs, length, weight, they take blood for STD’s and the x-ray is for TB.

The doctor is a kind and relaxed Dutch doctor. You wait together with his patients in an old Amsterdam house. The x-ray is about 1 km walk from the doctor. So I parked my car at the parking lot Museumplein. From there everything is close by and easy to get to by foot. I must say, I don’t like doctors so I was more nervous for my medical then the interview. My fiancé was here with Christmas and we made the whole package ready, so I knew I had everything we needed.

Then finely the day we had been looking forward to for so long, my interview! The consulate is on the Museumplein, again an Old Dutch house. First you wait outside in a line. Like the Dutch are.... all were protecting their spot in the line, but finely you get called forward by your appointment time and not who was there first. Then you go in together with the others, through some sort of airport like security. They check your passport; you have to leave all your bags there. After the detector you walk into a big waiting room with your big pile of forms and proof. The cabin I was in (nr. 5) was in a smaller room next to the bigger one. There were a few places to sit. We were with 5 people who came for the K1. There my nervousness started. That happens when you all have to wait and wait. Then finely a very nice lady came in the window and we had to line up and see her one by one. She checks your forms, takes your passport, pictures, documents you have to bring, and the stamps. You also have to give your fingerprints. When all is done, you have to sit and wait till the consul comes in from another window and asks you forward by your name. There were people before me so I went to the toilet, where I heard my name called! Runnnnnn! But also the consul was a nice and patient person. You have to state that all you tell and brought in is true and then sign the papers you filled in weeks ago and sent back. Then he asks all kinds of Q's. You can hear the answers of the others too, which is weird, but I don’t think he all asks you the same! With some it’s about their first marriage, when they want to marry and where, with me he asked where and when we did meet, what my fiancés mothers name was (bet it was to check if I knew that his dad died)....if his kids did like me...how old they were etc. I could tell he read the forms before he called me forward. Then the great words came: We are going to print the visa in your passport!!! and you will get it in the mail within 5 days, have a nice day!....

Because you can’t take your phone inside the consulate, I left it in the car. I went out got my phone a.s.a.p. and called my fiancé: YESSSSSSSS!

All together I was inside for 1.5 hours.

Finally the big day had come! I had read all of the reviews so I had an idea of what I could expect, but I was still pretty nervous.

I left my phone in a locker at Amsterdam central station and took a tram to Museumplein. Once there the consulate was very easy to spot with it's American flag waving in the wind. I arrived too early so hung around in the freezing cold for a while until it was almost 13.30. When they let us in, the guards were very friendly and polite, and that helped me feel less nervous. They told me to go to window 5.

At the window a very nice lady took my appointment confirmation letter, my passport, two passport photos, the postage, proof of payment and finally the Affidavit of Support from my fiancé and his mom, our co-sponsor. She asked me a few simple questions, and after that she asked me to wait until I was called to window 6 by the consular officer. The wait took about 45 minutes and I got increasingly nervous during this time. After a young woman, who was there for her CR-1, it was my turn.

The officer asked me to swear that I would speak the truth, and then to state my name, date of birth and the same for my fiancé. He went through my files and asked me how and when we met, when we started dating, and how our proposal went. And that was basically it!
I heard him say: ....receive your passport with the stamp in the mail in a few days. Congratulations, you are approved. I left with a big grin on my face and a few tears of happiness!

The interview was on the 20th of November at the US embassy in Amsterdam. I arrived at the embassy with my fiance(petitioner) at 1.25pm , the interview was scheduled for 1.30pm. At exactly 1.30pm the security ask everybody with 1.30pm appointment to form a queue and people with no electronics were allowed to go in first. We were directed to counter number 5, where we met a very good and patient lady who took all our documents (Passport , birth certificate, affidavit of support(1-134), postage stamp, police clearance certificates and evidence of payment). She also took my finger print and ask us to wait for a consular officer for the actual interview. At this time I was nervous and said to my self the monment has arrived! After about 5 minutes I was called by a middle age latino man to counter number 6. He greeted me with a warm smile and that calm me down a little bit, my fiance was standing right by my side. Then the questions started:
1. what is your name
2.What is your date of birth
3.How did you meet your fiancee
4.How many time has she visited
5.When is the wedding and when is my fiance going back to US (This was directed to my fiance) and he said to me stop being nervous u're approved and you will receive your passport within 3-5 working days. I just stood there like a statue and thinking what has he just said. He didnt ask for any proof of ongoing relationship (I was a bit disssapointed because we brought tons of proof). Right now i'm waiting for my passport to be delievered. I hope this helps. Thank you visa journey, this would not have been possible without you and the wonderful members on here. We are sooo happy the 1st stage is done!!
