Review Topic: K1 Visa

I picked the only available interview date throughout August and September, which is August 17th. It didn't seem like I have a choice since my petition expires on the second week of October and I was told by my office that I might have a work trip on the beginning of October.

I had a crazy week. Called the panel doctor for a medical examination on August 8th. Went to the medical examination the following day. Was told to pick up my medical report on August 16th.

As for the documents, I collected almost everything except for my Australian Police Certificate. This is required as I spent a few years in Australia. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) only mail their certificates through standard international mail. It will take about 20 working days to get here. That's about a month. I ordered this on the last week of July thinking that it will be in time for a September interview. Since I was told that August 17th was the only available slot in two months, I had no choice but to call the AFP to send another copy to a friend in Australia so that she could express mail it to me. Unfortunately that did not arrived on time too. She sent me a scanned copy plus a verification letter from her before having the originals courier to me.

Anyway, I divided my interview package into 4 clear folders;
Folder 1: Interview Confirmation, Payment Confirmation, DS-160, NOA1, NOA2, NVC Letter, Statement of Intent to Marry (both), Birth Certificate (both), Passports copy (both), Malaysian Police Certificate, Australian Police Certificate (scanned copy + verification letter or original), Medical Examination Report & Receipt.

Folder 2: Affidavit of Support, Fiancé's Bank Statements, Fiancé's Bond Statement, Fiancé's 2 Pay Stubs, Fiancé's W2 (2015 & 2016), Fiancé's Employment Letter & Contract, my Bank Statements, my Assets Listing, my Education Record & Honor Awards, my Volunteer Record & Recommendation Letters.

Folder 3: Evidence Pack - Screenshots of a few chats from each month, screenshots of voice and video calls, immigration stamps on both passports, airline reservations & boarding passes, hotel reservations for recent summer trips, photos of us and family. Information on wedding plans - A few wedding venues and packages that we are considering. Rings - Promise ring, engagement ring & wedding bands with receipt

Folder 4: Original submission of I-129F

There were one other K1 visa applicant and one K2 visa (from what I heard, the applicant got into trouble at the POE and was sent back). The CO was giving both of them a hard time. Took the other K1 visa applicant nearly 20 minutes with all the questions. I was a little worried that it might happen to me too. When she was done, the CO called my number and I walked up.

Took me all but two minutes... The CO asked;
When did you meet your fiance?
When did you last meet in person?
When did you got engaged ?

Congratulations.. your visa is approved

Guess being organized works well...:D

Review Topic: K1 Visa

10 am interview but I arrived at 9 ish. No queue nor crowd. A guard told me I can go through security immediately to enter the embassy compound.

Registration counter: Provided my ID card and visa interview confirmation page. Lady checked my appointment against her list, stamped my visa interview confirmation page with a B, returned the page to me and issued me a visitor tag. My ID card was held at the counter.

First security checkpoint: Handed in my mobile phones, power bank, USB cable and earphones and was given a pigeonhole number tag. Bags were scanned (like airport security checks) and I walked through a detector. Collected everything and walked to the actual embassy building.

Second security checkpoint: Guard manually checked my bags casually and I walked through yet another detector. After I was cleared, I was instructed to go to the interview hall, which was on the left.

Interview hall: Queue number ticket guy checked my visa interview appointment confirmation page. Gave me a queue number ticket that began with a B followed by three numbers. He told me to hold onto it and get my documents out from my folders. Just as I was opening my folder, my queue number was called. I had to go to the document submission window.

Document submission window: Lady asked for my visa interview confirmation page and returned it to me after taking a look. Gave me a slip which was supposed to act as a letter of intent for me to sign and date as well as a copy of the domestic violence pamphlet. Then she started to ask for the following:

1) DS-160 confirmation page
2) Passport
3) 1 passport photo
4) Queue number ticket (she tore one portion from the two-part ticket to be affixed to my passport)
5) Original Certificate of Good Conduct or other police certificates
6) Original birth certificate + birth certificate copy + birth certificate translation
7) Medical envelope - she returned me the x-ray CD
8) Transaction Confirmation page (document delivery address registration confirmation page)
9) Visa fee payment receipt
10) I-134 + tax transcripts
11) Evidence of relationship - video call screenshots, call logs, one Christmas card (I received from my fiancé) - asked if she wanted more and she said no

Waiting hall: After submitting all documents, I was told to go to the waiting hall. This hall is across the interview hall. It is situated on the right side of the second security checkpoint. Put my stuff back into their relevant pockets. Sat for less than 10 minutes and my number was called again and was assigned Counter 7.

Interview counter: My interview session was at Counter 7 and the consular officer was Gordon Wood. He was pleasant but nothing overly friendly. He remained courteous and professional throughout. I took my oath and continued with biometrics. Once I finished my fingerprinting, he started to ask me questions:

1) How did we meet?
2) When's the first in-person meeting?
3) Was that visit to the US specifically to visit him?
4) Where did the first in-person meeting took place?
5) Where does he live?
6) What's his job?
7) Has he ever been married?
8) Have I ever been married?
9) Has he been to Malaysia?

Upon hearing my answer to his final question, he got busy looking for some papers on the shelves. I almost burst into tears thinking he was gonna deny my visa application or tell me to submit more documents. He couldn't find what he needed so he went to the next counter only to come back with the domestic violence pamphlet. He asked if I had gotten that and understood the content to which I answered yes. Finally, he didn't say my visa was approved. Instead, he said everything looked good and I should wait to get my visa in the next few days.

Waiting hall: Ushered by the queue number ticket guy to the other hall. I was told that I could take as much time as I want there to re-organize my stuff or whatever. Quickly packed up my things, checked I have my original birth certificate back and changed into a pair of flip flops because my shoe straps broke. Embarrassing as f-ck considering I was in an embassy! It's damn funny too.

Exit: Left the embassy compound via the tall manual turnstile.

Collection counter: Returned the visitor tag and pigeonhole number tag. Retrieved my ID card and my electronics.

Overall comment: I'm happy with my experience at the embassy this round after two extremely horrible ones previously for my B2 visa applications (1 denied in 2007/08 and 1 approved in 2015). All the guards on duty were polite, document submission window lady was a good sport and the queue number ticket guy was helpful. Consular Officer Gordon Wood had proven to me that consular officers at the US Embassy in Malaysia could be pleasant and professional at the same time without the need for intimidation and spewing baseless allegations. He probably won't be reading this but still, thank you!

THE END

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Went for interview on 6th of April 2017, and they put me in Administrative Processing status. Sent all the details required (where i've had travel in past 15 years, where I've been stayed for past 15 years, and also where I've been working for past 15 years.) on 7th of April 2017 and its over 60 days, status still the same.

Anything i could do? email them and they ask to wait and it say need to wait 90 days instead of 60 days.
Any advice and should i worry?

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Interview Date: May 11, 2017 @ 7.45am.

I arrived at the embassy at 7.30am. The embassy was still quite empty and there is only another family in front of me. They ask for my Appointment letter and IC, give me the tag and I was let in. I brought my 18months old son (dual citizenship), and the staffs were very helpful! They guide me to the "elevator" as i brought a stroller. The "elevator" is not a usual elevator, you need to keep pressing the "up"/"down" button to go up/down else it will stop in the middle 😂.

When I enter the second building, i did another scan and the lady checked my bags. She took out my sons toy and ask if its battery operated, which is not. So in case you taking your kids with you make sure the toys that you bring is not battery operated.

I get my number and I am number 3 in line. By 7.50am they start calling the numbers. They have 3 counters opened, hence I was called rightaway. The lady at the counter ask me to put my son in the stroller as she said i will need both hands to be free to take out documents that she needed. Below are documents that she asked:-
1) Passport
2) 1 passport photo
3) My civil documents
4) The sealed medical report to which she asked me to open and take out another small envelope inside.
5) Latest tax returns for my husband
6) Courier registration slip
She basically already have all my documents photocopied. She gave me a paper regarding moving to US and our right as immigrant. And ask to wait for my number to be call again

When my number called, it is actually the first to be interviewed. I think it is because i have young son with me. The officer is a very nice and friendly lady. She only asked me few questions:-
1) How do you meet your husband?
2) she wants to see my son's birth certificate
3) Where is my husband now? - He is in US and couldnt attend the interview due to work constrain.

I knew i will be approved before she said that because she is all smiley and I saw she cancelled my B2 visa 😁

I was done and out from the embassy at 8.25am.
