Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Sept 22

I came to JA for my husbands interview because I knew how important it was for me to be there since I was filing for him. It was a rainy day and his interview was at 7:30 - we reached around 6:20 and sat in the car. That didn't stop people from lining up outside. We went in line around 7:00 where we came to the security checkpoint. They were a bit loud and stern, but I knew they were simply doing their job. Although we had all our paperwork submitted we still brought along plenty of evidence and additional paperwork just to be safe. After the checkpoint we came to another sitting area - people were already sitting outside but they had us go into a separate line where we went inside - they asked for my hsuband interview letter and gave him a yellow slip for DHL - weher ehe had to write his name, address and number. We sat in Section A - Section B was bigger and very full. We had number A116 - the numbers were not called in order as they started with A104 window 5 - then A100 window 6 - I already figured that was to come since I read plenty of reviews on this website. We remained calm and just laughed and talked. At this point my husband went to the bathroom and security came in and asked did anyone lose a watch - I didn't think anything of it so I didn't speak up - so my husband came back and we are trying to hear some of the questions asked - we really couldn't hear because some of the workers were a bit quiet spoken. We would hear who is filing for you? or Have you ever been to the U.S.? then they take your fingerprints. Left hand first 4 fingers, right hand 4 fingers - then your 2 thumbs. My husband was praticing as people went up and the woman had to tell them over..your left hand, your left hand - so he didn't want to mess up. We looked over at Section B and what was full at one point - people were leaving quickly. Mu husband told me they have no porblem denying people on that side. We saw no one at windows 8 and 9 - as I knew these were the windows where the real questions were going to be asked - we finally see a white woman-American come to window 8. The order the numbers are called to the windows 5,6,7 is the same order when being called at 8 and 9. So we are finally called to Window 6 - I remained in my seat as to not lose our seats - but the woman asked my husband who is filing and she asked me to come to the window. She asks has he ever travled outside the US? Is this his 1st marriage? He said Yes. She asked me is this my 1st marriage? I said No - So I told her she has in her stack of papers my former marriage license and certified copy of a divorce decree. She then says we can be seated. We sat there for another hour - which went by quickly. We watched how people went up to windows 8 and 9 - were sworn in to tell the truth and asked Where is your spouse? Some telling them they need to come back with a joint sponsor as the income was not enough to file for them. Others had no evidence of their marriage. Finally its our turn and I already told my husband not to grin up with them, be firm and answer his questions with confidence. My husband is always smiling so I didn't want them to think he was trying to pull something over them. We were sworn in then she asked for our passports and looked at all my stamps, she gave me back my passport and my birth certificate - which I was happy because it was the original. The questions started
1. When did you meet? I stood quiet but my husband froze up and looked at me - I just went ahead and answered Feb 2008
2. How did you meet? At that time we both answered through his cousin
Then she asked me to leave the window asked my husband to stay and for him to pick up the phone. Once the phone is picked up anyone sitting close cannot hear what is asked. My husband walked off with me - I looked at hima nd asked where was he going - I said she asked you to stay at the window - he was so nervous.
After a while she asks me to come back to the window and said Congratulations you VISA has been approved - please go to window 26 to pay DHL
I asked him - what questions did she ask - he said as she asked questions he answered truthfully and looked her in the eyes when he spoke to her
Did he have kids?
Did I have kids?
How often do I visit and where do we stay when I visit
They never asked for evidence or no additional paperwork
He had to sit outside until it was his turn to make arrangement for DHL - while he waitied I went on the search for my husbands watch - when he confirmed that he lost it - so I went to 3 security guards and finally it shows up. he paid $750JA for DHL service which the guy told him it will be delivered by next week - We are excited and glad this is over with - it has been since last year Sept from when his paperwork was submitted and finally I will have him home for the holidays - This wasn't as bad as I thought it would be - this website is a great tool to see what is expected and puts your nerves at ease. Remain humble and pray, God grace will make it work out on your behalf. Good luck everyone. Blessings

Review Topic: K1 Visa

We stayed at The Prestige (also known as Sandhurst) which isn't too far from the embassy. From driving by the embassy the day before, I didn't want us to have to deal with finding parking the morning of the interview, so we left the car at the hotel where it was safe & took a taxi. It took 10 minutes to get to the embassy from the hotel, due to the traffic. We arrived at 8:55 for our 9:00 appointment.

Outside the Embassy:
At the embassy, Steven realized he'd forgot to take his phone out of his pocket, so he gave it to Ms Nikki to hold. She charges $200 to hold anything you're not supposed to bring in. She told us where the end of the line was, but from reading previous reviews, I knew that that wasn't the line for us. We walked to the front of the line and a yellow shirted woman told us to start a different line since we were filing for a K1 visa. Once we pulled out all of the papers, she came to us to check them. She stapled the passport pictures and interview receipt onto the DS156 forms. Once she checked that we had all the forms (excluding the I-134 & supporting docs) she sent us to the door on the right.

Security, Number Assignment:
In there, we went through security. By the time we finished that, it was 9:05. We walked across the pavilion to another building. There, we were given the yellow form to fill out for DHL (passport #, address) and got in line. The lady who worked at that counter didn't find our names on the list, but since we had the interview letter, she gave us a # (A144) and told us to go through the door behind her. Really, we could've gone through the door right in front of us. It would've put us in Section B, but we could've walked over to Section A.

Interview Part 1:
It wasn't too crowded in Section A. We sat on the front row, in front of the windows to the right, since I knew (from previous reviews) that we'd get called to those first. In less than 20 minutes, we were called to window 7. The lady there was nice enough & quite professional. She took the forms but gave us back the duplicates. I was hoping she'd keep the duplicate birth certificate instead of the original. Oh well. There was one paper that she ripped up, but I couldn't tell what it was. Perhaps it was the interview letter. She sent us over to window 17 so Steven could have his fingerprints taken. We got there by 9:30. The woman working there seemed new, as she had to find assistance. It took about 10 minutes to get Steven's fingerprints, even though there was no line. Afterward, she sent us back to Section A.

Interview Part 2:
We sat waiting for just over an hour, but the time went by pretty quickly. This time we sat in front of windows 8 and 9, so that we (I) could hear what was happening with the other people having their interviews. We saw at least 4 people get blue slips: 2 for not having medical results, 1 for not having the father's name on the birth certificate, and one for both of those reasons. We also saw at least 3 approvals: 2 spousal visas & 1 family visa. There were a few others that I couldn't tell the results due to the quiet talking & blank expressions. While we were waiting during this hour, every time I noticed Steven slipping into a nervous look, I'd do something to distract him: hand massages, playing with the one gray hair he has, commenting on peoples' outfits, playing tic tac toe. 70% of my reason for that was to keep him from looking stiff & nervous. The other 30% was for anyone watching. I definitely noticed that everyone else there looked quite solemn.

We were called up at 10:44 by a blond woman at window 8. She asked when we met. I let Steven answer: "2007, November." He said it very nervously, and stumbled a bit, which is understandable. She asked where we met and he told her at a resort where he worked. She asked if I worked there, too. He said no, my family was visiting. She asked how long I'm usually there when I go. I told her 4 days to a week. She asked if all (10 of) my trips were to visit him specifically. I said no. The first few were just because I liked Jamaica, but we met up each time. The rest of the trips were because of him. Then she told me to sit down. I did, and that's when I remembered that we forgot to show pictures (and they never asked) or any other evidence. I thought about bringing it up to the window, but I didn't want to disrupt them. She'd already had Steven pick up the phone. She asked him if either of us has kids, which we don't. She then asked which of my relatives he met. He said my parents, sister, aunt, and cousin. (I guess he doesn't remember my grandmother, other aunt, or other cousins from the first trip). She then asked which of his relatives I've met. He said "All of them." She then called me back up. I said "We have pictures if you'd like to see." She said "That's not necessary. You've been approved. Go to window 26 to make arrangements with DHL." The entire questioning part of the interview took about 5 minutes.

After the Interview:
At the DHL counter, we paid with a credit card. After waiting in line for a bit, Steven made arrangements on where to pick up the visa. The guy said it can take anywhere from 2 days to 2 months to be ready for pick-up. I'm hoping for 4 days or less. We exited the embassy at 11:08, seemingly one of the last ones there. All of the non-immigrant visa people were already gone. There were no more lines outside. It seemed like they were about to close. Steven found Ms Nikki, the cell phone holder, and asked her how much (even though she said $200 earlier). She said, "You can give me $1000 if you'd like." To her (and my) surprise, Steven did just that. She called one of her taxi driving friends to come get us. He brought us back to the hotel for $300. We got in our car and headed back to Negril, glad to have our backs to the interview.

Review Topic: K3 Visa

On my husband's first interview, it was all good. Security (the people in the yellow jackets)were very helpful, even though my husbands was late . After leaving that area he went to the window were the lady doing the interview was very nice, my husband was missing some of the papers that were needed,(even though his wife sent them to him weeks ahead of time) he left them, thinking he didn't need them so she polietly asked him when could he return with the documents? she rescheduled him and he was off. Now the second interview was not so great , as soon as my husband reached the window the older lady behind it asked him "when was the last time he smoked ghanja" he told here over two years ago, and she said "sorry your visa is denied, come back in 2012" I given them a rating of a 4, beacuase the first time my husband came, they could have dismissed him then for being late, yet they were VERY helpful in getting him prepared for the next time... sadly he was denied for three years , so I guess we will be doing this again in 2012

My husband went to the interview alone and said it was a breeze. They only asked him basic questions such as where your wife lives and when were you married. I had all extra copies of everything I could think of together for him in a folder and pictures of us, but they never asked for them. The only things they asked for was his passport and medical packet. I am beginning to think that if you have all the paperwork in order, then there are no problems. My husband said everything was straight forward. We are both so excited about him coming home next week that I keep forgetting to ask him more about the interview.

Review Topic: K3 Visa

Going to the Embassy was very exciting and nerve wrecking for my husband and I. Please note if you are going for the K3 interview you MUST bring two copies of the DS156 (3 pages long TWO different bar codes) and you MUST have two copies of your 157. They wont let you in through security without it. Honestly we got there are 8:44am and it was such a smooth process after that. We received our ticket number. Proceeded to the cashier. Paid our $131 visa fee and waited our turn. Your number gets called twice and they do not go in order. They asked my husband and I very simple questions. How long weve been together. When did we meet. How may people were at our wedding and if we had any children together. That was that. The officer actually cut us off and said OK your visa has been approved! that I must admit was one of the best days of my life!!! anyways thanks to visa journey for everything. Kingston Embassy is not that bad. Just go prepared with all your paperwork and you will be fine
