Review Topic: K1 Visa

Thankfully to God we are through with our interview and i've picked up my visa today Aug 17, 2012. I was scheduled for my interview on 24 July 2012, at 7.30am. I got to the embassy at about 7am. When i got there i was asked by the Policeman at the entrance to go under the tree since it wasnt time to queue. At about 7.15am the Policeman (Security) called us across the street from under the tree to form the queue. Everyone quickly run to join the queue and those who ran faster were able to be at the front. I also managed to ran faster and was able to be infront though not at the forefront. Our appointment letters were checked and we were asked to go through the security check point before entering. We were ordered to put our phone, earpiece, perfume, bottle of water in a bowl or container and submit it to the security personel for "a property tag". Once you go through the security check and everything is fine you are asked to get inside the building.
When i got inside the building i was asked to stand outside the door and will be called shortly. I waited patiently and the security personel came out to call some of us because they didnt want the hall to be congested. Once i got into the hall i enquired from the lady at the information desk what i needed to do. NB: please ask the embassy personnel/ security if you get into the building and not just join the group of people you will meet since everybody is standing there for a particular reason or purpose. She asked me sit at a particular place and told me to listen with rapt attention so i can hear if they mention my name and the window i have to go to.
I paid attention and listened very well. My name was mentioned and the window i had to go to. it was window 1 and it was a lady. she asked me to bring out the documents i have brought for my interview. I then offloaded all my documents from my bag. i had tonnes of documents and evidence my God! My handbag even got torn! i brought out my forms-ds-230, 156, 156k, my album-pictures with my fiance, his family in Ghana, tax trancripts, W2, Call records from my fiance and MTN, SKYPE records, emails, facebook chats. My engagement ring receipt- i wore my engagement ring too, letters, cards etc. i just wanted to give everything to her. I was still removing my documents but she asked me to hold some of the stuff so that when they call me to another window and they request for anything then i give it out. i responded in the affirmative. She gave me a paper to take to the cahier and pay my visa fee. i paid in the cedi equivalent of the dollar ghc 480. The cashier gave me a reciept and i went to sit down at where i was sitting before i was called to window 1. The after about 30min or so i was again to window 3 , this time it was a guy who mentioned my name. I greeted him and he responded to me, smiled and said " with these documents of yours we will need a forklift to lift them" i smiled back. He then told me do the finger print by lifting my thumb on the fingerprint machine. You will be directed on what to do. Once i was done he asked me to go back to my seat till my name is mentioned again.
I went back to my seat and i was called in about 30min again to another window. this time it was window 4 and it was an american lady. I walked there and greeted her and then she responded and said something which i didnt hear clearly but saw that raised her hand and said i swear. lol i also said i swear before it occcured to me i was taking the oath! When we were done with the swearing she asked me to sign the forms which i did and pushed it back to her. She then started the interview. for a minute i didnt realise she had started the interview. She asked me:
-How long has my fiance been in his current employment
-What kind of company does he work for??
-How long has he been staying in his current address
-Does he live in an apartment or a house
-Does he have a housemate
-How did we meet.
All these questions were within a space of 5min. I answered all correctly with the exception of the yrs he has been in his residence. i mentioned the yr and then said no sorry and mentioned the correct yr. She said thats fine and everything look good so i'm approved. She then gave me all my documents back to me and handed me the blue half slip thats the visa collection ticket. I said thank You, have a good day and left. You could see the excitement on my face when i was walking out at about 9:45am.

On Aug 17, at 7.am i was at the embassy again to pick up my visa. it was a long day with lots of people to pick up visa. Due to the public holiday last week friday all those scheduled for that day couldnt pick up so they had backlogged of visa collection. it was after 12.30 until i was called for my visa. Its been a long visa journey but its worth it and i thank everyone on VJ for their posts, reviews, responses. I give my sincere thanks to my fiance Ken for having come this far with me. I loveyou

Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiance had his interview this morning. He called me to let me know the details after he left the embassy. He said that the consular (a guy) was nice to him. The consular looked through all of the evidence I sent, this included Skype logs, phone logs, emails etc. I also sent my fiance about 20 pictures from my last trip in Ghana of me and him together and also ones of me, him and his family together. He said the consular looked through those too.

When done with that, he asked my fiance these questions: When was the last time you saw her? and why hasn't she been back since 2010? Then my fiance explained that I did get my visa to come back to Ghana and was in the process of making plans. (Although I did have my visa and had planned to go back, I was unable to due to plane ticket expenses. I was worried that his Visa would be denied if I didn't make it back to Ghana) But thank God that was not a factor in the consular's decision. Thanks be to God, he approved my fiance's visa inspite of my infrequent trips to Ghana!

The consular told my fiance that he should come back to pick up his Visa on September 7th!!

I went there for the interview and to our surprise after so much preparation, we get to the window and the officer says "And who are you?" I introduce myself. He asked if he could return the mounds of skype, facebook, and phone records I brought to us and that he would keep only the things they really needed. Then he says, "So you 2 have been married for 2 years, huh?" I say no sir 9 months. He then stamps a few forms and hands us a blue slip that is for visa pick up and we were done. We were in the "interview" for all of 3 minutes.

Review Topic: General Review

Finally another step in our journey has been completed. It has been a long and difficult journey but I am happy to say that thanks be to God we have been successful. My visa interview in reality started the night before, after my fiancé and I checked and double, triple checked all of our paperwork we thought to go to bed early as our next day would start very early. It would not happen we both lay awake most of the night overturning every possible scenario in our heads. I don’t recommend going to your interview sleepless if it can be at all avoided. We showed up at the embassy at 530 am my fiancé, stepson and I. We sat next to a very kind woman also on Visa Journey telling of her experience along the way. She was a true godsend as she had been in our shoes just the week before. She was our guide and we will forever be in her debt. We had been told that my fiancé and stepson might not enter with me but luckily they were allowed to accompany me every step of the way. First thing I was called up to turn in my paperwork and evidence. My stepson ran up to keep me company at the window and eventually I required my over organized fiancé to come and guide me through the paperwork so the two of them were at my side for each step. The agent who took my paperwork was very nice and helpful. He said he would put all of our abundance of evidence through with our paperwork so everything would be seen in the best light. He helped alleviate our stress. Then we were called up to do the fingerprints and again the same nice agent assisted us asking for other evidence he knew we had with us to add to our paperwork. Then the real wait began for us. Our new friend was called up and she was granted her visa, we are so happy to say, then it was our turn and we were called up. The agent we got was a nice enough man, he asked me the applicant a total of one question “How did you and your fiancé meet? He asked my fiancé about three questions regarding her previous trip to Ghana and the length of the current one. Then he handed me the green slip of paper we had been praying for and told me to come back in a month and pick up my visa. He said good luck to you and with that made us a very happy family. Our overall experience at the embassy was nothing but positive from beginning to end especially the outcome and our new friend Vivian. We are so blessed.
