My husband went a day before to the embassy for document verification. As he was getting his documents verified, the lady asked him for the two passport size pictures and also told him that he is going to fingerprinted. After getting everything done she told him if he wanted to get interviewed today and he replied yes. She told him to wait. He was interviewed by young man. My husband was asked these questions.
1. Where are her family originally from?
2. Where does she live?
3. Does she have a sister?
4. When and where did you get married?
5. When did she last visit you?
6. Did you meet her family and when?

During this interview the interviewing officer did not ask for any evidence that me and him complied which was over 4lbs.
He told him congrats and gave him a green piece of paper so that he can pick up his visa tomorrow.
The officers were nice and he only had to wait a total of 1 hour

Addis and I were approved at the Ethiopia embassy today. We are so excited at the speed at which things have gone for me and my sweet heart.

The interview was very easy in our case and I was left wondering WOW!!. The interviewer did not even ask for my affidavit of support and/or evidence of ongoing relationship. I spent many hours gathering the information and they did not even look at it…..Nice!!

My fiancée was call to the interview window after two hours wait in the visa waiting room. I walk with my fiancée to the window but the interview asks me to go sit down. Here is how the interview went:

Interviewer: Do you speak English?
Fiancée: Yes, I speak but not very well
Interviewer: What does your fiancé do for a living?
Fiancée: He is an Auditor
Interviewer: Where was your fiancé originally born?
Fiancée: Ghana
Interviewer: Did your fiancé tell you about Ghana?
Fiancée: No
Interviewer: Has your fiancé been marriage before?
Fiancée: Yes, now he is divorce
Interviewer: Do you know if your fiancé has had an ex- fiancé
Fiancée: Yes, I know about his ex-fiancée
Interviewer: Why did their relationship not work out?
Fiancée: It did not work out because her brother was involved in a car accident in addition to other issues…….

The interviewer handed her a yellow sheet and told her to come and pick up her passport and visa in Tuesday.

WE HAD THE BEST EXPERIENCE WITH THE AMERICAN CONSULATE IN ETHIOPIA. THE PEOPLE ARE VERY NICE HELPFULL AND DON'T GIVE YOU A HARD TIME SPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE ALL THE PAPER WORK WELL DOCUMENTED. THIS IS THE EXPERIENCE MY FIANCEE HAD. SHE WENT TO THE EMBASSY AT 8:30PM US TIME WHICH IS MORNING TIME IN ETHIOPIA SHE STOOD IN LINE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF. AT 10:00PM THEY TOLD EVERYBODY THAT WAS THERE TO TURN IN THEIR DOCUMENTS SO SHE DID THEN THEY TOLD HER TO SIT IN THE WAITING AREA. AFTER LIKE THREE HOURS LATER THEY CALLED HER TOO THE WINDOW AND......

CO: HELLO, HOW ARE YOU
SO: I AM FINE THANK YOU(IN HER LANGUAGE AND THE TRANSLATOR TRANSLATED IT TO THE CO)
CO: SO WHERE DOES YOUR FIANCE LIVE?
SO: AMERICA, IN A STATE CALLED UTAH AND THE CITY IS OGDEN
CO: WHAT DOES HE DO FOR LIVING?
SO: HE WORKS AS AN EXTRA IN MOVIES, TV SHOWS, COMMERCIALS, AND DOCUMENTARIES.
CO: HAVE YOU SEEN ANY OF HIS FILMS?
SO: NO
CO: THEN HOW WOULD YOU KNOW?
SO: BECAUSE HE TOLD ME.
CO: SMILED AT HER AND SAID OK GO TO THE FIRST WINDOW AND PAY THE VISA FEE AND COME BACK.
SO: OK. THEN SHE WENT THO THE FIRST WINDOW AND PAID THE FEE THEN THEY GAVE HER A RECEIPT AND SHE TOOK THE RECEIPT BACK TO THE CO AND THE CO SAID ALRIGHT COME BACK ON TUESDAY AND PICK UP YOUR PASSPORT AND VISA. AND MY SO SAID OK THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND LEFT. AND ONCE SHE LEFT THE BUILDING SHE CALLED ME AND I ASKED HER WHAT HAPPENED AND SHE WAS SO HAPPY SHE WAS LAUGHING WHEN SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE GOT THE VISA, I WAS SO HAPPY IT FELT LIKE A BIG WEIGHT HAS LIFTED OFF ME. AND WHEN I ASKED HER ABOUT THE CO SHE SAID SHE WAS VERY NICE AND SHE WAS SMILING THE WHOLE TIME WHICH MAD HER ALOT LESS NERVOUS AND SHE ALSO SAID THE CO DIDNT EVEN LOOK AT THE FORMS SHE JUST ASKED TWO QUESTIONS AND THAT WAS IT. AND THE REASON WAS EVERYTHING WAS WELL DOCUMENTED AND WE HAD A LOT OF PROOFS.

Today was one of the Best and the worst day. Since last night my fiancé and I was so nervous. I keep calling her almost every hour to tell her, it will be OK, just be yourself.

Anyway, this is exactly what happened:

-She went to the Embassy around 6:00AM, US embassy in Ethiopia usually have long lines by 7:00AM
-She was the first one in the line.
Around 7:30 they told her to return all her medical, police certificate, birth certificate, and the DS230. Then they told her to wait in the lobby.
(about six month ago all the employees in the US embassy were mean, rude, and aggressive, but according to the security guard she spoke with, he said, “They got all brand new crew and you don’t have to worry about a thing.”)
-Well that kind of made her feel better
-After 30min, she said they called her name and she got Window 2(all the officers are women)
-The officer had a translator, (which was Ethiopian)
-The first question was, when was the last time you saw your Fiancé?
-She told them, the day before you flew to US
What does your fiancé do? She told him, Network Engineer.
Then they asked for I-134(which is not required according to them, this is one thing I hate about all the US embassy, on your packet 3, they don’t ask for the I-134 so I called them and asked, one of the officer pacifically told me that, it was not required, but even though she told me it was not required, I sent to my fiancé and told her to take it with her to the interview.)
-She gave them the folder with all the documentation I sent her:
I-134 notarized
Letter from work
3 pay stab
3 years tax return transcript
Phone record
E-mail record
A lot of pictures
Evidence of me sending money to her (western union)
Letters that she sent me and I sent to her
A fresh letter of intent dated within 30 days of the interview date
-The officer just went through everything including the pictures and then said, go pay and then come back her.
After she paid for the visa which is $130.00, she went back to Window 2.
-At that point, my fiancé said, she got dizzy and didn’t know what to say. If they would asked her another question, she said, she would just fainted right there, but the OFFICER said, “Come back on TUESDAY February 12, 2008 and pick up your visa.
-Then my fiancé smiled at her and even though she didn’t spoke ENGLISH, she said THANK YOU in English.

I think the new officer and employees in the US embassy are the BEST
