The first person that Lynne spoke to at the American Consulate was not helpful. She was intimidating, condescending which made the first part of the interview very frustrating for her. She had to leave the consulate to get $131.00 in cash, That was my fault, I had a money order for that amount but that was not acceptable. Once that was done, she went back sat and waited around for another hour, then she was called into the room, this time she had the Consulate General himself who made her more at ease, he ask her about her experience so far, to which she replied" terrible" she explained her ordeal with the first person, he then made her feel comfortable and the rest of the interview went well. Thru all this I waited for her at a little coffee shop at the corner from the consulate. This is the way she related the story to me. Once I saw her walking towards the coffee shop, she had a glow about her telling me that the ordeal was over and done. She was told that she would receive her visa and passport the following week. Her interview was on Jan.21,2009 got back to Windsor Ontario on Thursday evening. Friday( Jan 23,2009) afternoon she had received the pre-paid envelope with everything. Her passport, inside the passport was the visa, she also received a brown envelope in which you were told not to open. On the back it was double taped and there a signature. Also on the front a piece of paper with instruction DO NOT OPEN!!!!!. This must open only by the Customs Officer at the time you enter the US. If your curious in what is in the envelope, it is simply all the paper that you had file for the K1 visa, that they go over. If you open this before crossing and ruining that seal you have to start the process over. This was told to us by the Customs Officer when entered the US. He said. " you would be surprise on how many people open that envelope, and they have to start over again".

Everything went quite smoothly. My interview was on a Thursday and surprisingly, not too many people around. At the security check, make sure you don't have a cell phone with you. [I left mine in the car] And they check you, you go up the elevator, and they security check you again.

Everyone was amazingly nice. So simple. Asked me when we met, how we met and when we were engaged. And that was it! She said " ok your interview is over" and that was the end of it! YAY!

So please don't worry people. it's very simple!! If you're in love and in a real relationship, there is nothing at all to worry about !

If your interview is scheduled during the winter months please be prepared for the cold weather it was -12 but with the wind felt like -23. They let us waiting outside, some people were totally unprepared for the cold, no hats, thin socks, a lady showed up with wet hair!!!!!!! She was literally freezing, I had to start jumping (I know, pathetic!!!0  IN ORDER TO DON'T LOSE MY TOES. Inside the process was quit fast, they didn't ask that many questions, they did appreciate the fact I had all my documents organized and I had the passport and interview letter in hand when they open the doors (at 7:30ish am)

I was the first in line, got there at 6:45 am, five min after people start showing up. Remember less is more when it comes to security, no cell phone, no large purses, no eletronics: ipods, laptops etc..

My review lady was a mess!!! (Person you present the documentation, originals and copies) she was all over the place!! Not very organized!!! She would ask for the same stuff a million times, I was really blessed to have all my documents organized, I saw people desperately looking for stuff at the time of the review ( NOT GOOD!!!).They expect you to have all in order, this review lady asked me more questions than the actual interviewer, she even asked my fiance cel number, home # and work #, during the time she was completing some form online.

One more thing, review your originals when they hand that back to you (some of my originals were missing).

Overall no reason to be nervous if you have all the documentation required.

I got inside at 7:30 am, left at 9:25 am (very good!!!)(ONE hours of freezing bonus, not big deal!!! I stayed at the La Tour Centre Ville Hotel (Welcome to the 70's!!!!!!!) OLD and COLD rooms, but it's worth because of the proximity with the Consulate (LITERALLY across the street!!!) but again, DO NOT expect a "Dubai's Burj.... whatever the name of that hotel is"

Taxi from airport to downtown $ 38,00

Wish you all the very best!!!!

Review Topic: K3 Visa

I was surprised at how quickly and easily the process was through Vancouver. We arrived at the consulate early (they of course sent us away for 15 minutes). We arrived again at the scheduled time and were put through security. There are two sets so don't put stuff back in your pockets just carry them with you until through the second set.

We waited until called to window #3. We then handed in all the paperwork requested on our checklist. We had a seat again and waited to be called for the interview. Once called to the window we were asked general questions about how we met. Where we were married. Where we both worked. She verified my husbands income. Asked my daughter a couple of questions and asked her to sit down. Then asked me about her birth father (who has never been in the picture and is not listed on her birth certificate). She then told me to go get our medicals and we left.
We managed to get our medicals after some hassle. I ran back into the consulate with nothing in my pockets. Handed it over at window #2 and was told everything looked good and that we were to come back tomorrow to pick up our visa's.
The next day the consulate called to re-check the information about my daughter's birth father. I again explained that he was not listed on her birth certificate and had no rights to her. They said thank you and to be there at 2:00. I arrived at 2:00 and we picked up our k3 & k4 visa's.

All and all it was a good process - just nerve wracking!

We arrived just before 8:00 am and took no time to get through security smoothly. We were prepared for security and carried only necessities with us. Once inside, we were given simple straight-forward written instructions as to what was needed in what order. As we went throught he various steps in the process, there was never any confusion and all of the staff was friendly and courteous. Each interview was non-confrontational and took less than 10 minutes. Each person was given a number and there was never any confusion about where you were to go next, and which documents were needed, at each step of the process. We were finished by 11:00 am.
