Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Parked on the street and went into the building 15 minutes before our appointment. Be prepared to take off boots and heavy clothing to go through security.

We checked in and gave the woman at the front desk our “new” papers to submit and interview notice. They cannot be in any kind of folder- better to just have them organized with a binder clip (I had a small binder with dividers and sheet protectors but they made made take everything out). We were called in 5 minutes later.

We swore to tell the truth and the man asked if any of the new papers were repeats. He gave us back most of the papers (other than evidence). He did not need any of the NOAs, passport/DL/EAD copies, etc. He really only kept the new evidence of relationship and the Interview notice.

The questions he asked were straightforward, though my husband had a hard time hearing with the masks. He mostly talked to him and asked him questions about how many times he entered the US, and other items directly from the application. DO NOT try to answer for the person being asked the question. I subconsciously was nodding my head and the officer told me not to interfere with the questions being asked to my husband. He definitely was asking questions to get a reaction (He asked my husband if he ever had trouble when entering the country and stated, while looking at his computer, that it said he was held at the airport. This was not true and my husband denied that that had happened. So I’m not sure if that was a way to check if he was lying...

The officer asked me a few questions, mostly about my husband’s son (who does not live with us). Also about money and expenses (who pays for what, shared bank accounts, etc.

Last, the officer went through the criminal questions from the original form and my husband had to answer verbally. Afterward, he signed a paper regarding the green card. The officer did not say anything about being accepted.

As we were walking out, our USCIS account had been updated. First saying that our case was being reviewed and the second saying that our card is being produced and mailed!

Great officer, very patient, I had to breasfeed my baby there because she was cranky. He was very professional. He was very professional. We didn't feel nervous at all. Was quick. We forgot to bring the house papers from the house we bought. He took the rest fo the documents and a picture of baby. And the birth certificate.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We had our AOS interview during COVID. Found metered parking nearby and went to the municipal building (don't bring your phone!). After going through security, the office is just right around the corner of the entrance. We checked in for our appointment and the worker wanted all the documents we planned to present in advance (proof of relationship and the other documents that were specified to bring per the interview invite we received). We waited for under 5 minutes and were called to go already! The interview was in the personal office of one of the officers. She greeted us and swore us in (oath to be truthful), then started going through the new documentation we submitted while we waited. She asked for our passports to compare to the scanned copies, but other than that nothing new needed. The interview itself was less than 30 minutes, of which half was just the officer going through our documents and asking occasional clarification questions. We went through the whole i-485 form again to confirm everything was correct and make adjustments (for example, the beneficiary had since found a job per EAD so the officer updated the form to note that), then read off 50 questions that were already asked, i.e. have you ever committed a crime, and so forth. After that, the officer/beneficiary signed the corrected i-485 form. Then we had 15 minutes of 'small talk', with some topics below. At the end, the officer said she believed we were married and expected to complete her work by the same day. We received the green card in the mail just 3-4 business days later.

Questions from small-talk:
-Tell me how you met your spouse
-Tell me about the wedding / current living conditions
-Tell me about your (beneficiary) family, have you/they visited since the wedding?
-What are your future goals (mostly geared towards living arrangements + jobs/careers)
-Tell me about your job, what do you do (petitioner)

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

My appointment was at 10am but wasn’t called until 11:10. The case workers are pre assigned a workload for the day. My case worker was in training and fell behind. When finally called, we were escorted into the office with trainee and trainer. We had a huge evidence packet that we submitted. After swearing in, the interview took of with review of I-485 with I-864. During the review, we were able to reference the evidence documents regarding pertinent questions. It was going very smoothly and there were a lot of questions and stories told. They were laughing and responding very well to us. The interview actually took 1-1/2 hours but felt half the time. The officers were very polite and we never felt pressure. In the end, my lawyer asked if they felt that we met the burden of proof or should we submit more evidence. It was a way of getting an approval unofficially. They said they were comfortable with the evidence but needed to review first. We were approved that afternoon!
