From what I've read, there seem to be four typical interview experiences in HCMC.
1. See Pink, all smiles, very short, Get Pink.
2. See Pink, tough questioning, no smiles, get Pink.
3. See Blue, tough questions, turns to Pink.
3. See Blue, get Blue.
Ours was #2. She arrived an hour early at 7am, then was allowed inside, received her waiting number, then sat for 2 hours waiting to be called. When her number was called, she came to the window and gave our interview package to the CO, who had a neutral disposition and didn't smile or act friendly, all business. She returned to her seat after seeing Pink already. This caused her anxiety level to drop and her confidence grow.
When she was called back to the window for the interview, The CO was joined by a Vietnamese translator, but my wife didn't need her and conducted the interview in English.
The questions lasted 10 minutes and were rapid fire, direct... read complete review

Consular Officer interviewed for 15 to 20 minutes. It was almost lunch time so it was a quick interview, we think....
We issued a Blue requesting additional information, relative in the US, parents birth cert ect
I came back to Vietnam to come and submit the paper with my fiancee, but the CO didn't come out. CO give a Vietnamese person to give us another Blue for additional processing. CO didn't even know I came back.

My approach for the visa interview was to prepare for the toughest interview possible which entailed weeks of work on my part as well as my fiancee's. In addition, once we had the appointment letter, I booked a flight to Vietnam because I wanted to be there for my fiancee for support and also incase something came up that I could handle more easily.
I was really worried because the name on the appointment letter was out of sequence and then realized that on ALL of the forms submitted (I-129f, G-325a, DS-230, DS-2001) , I had swapped my fiancee's middle names (she has 2) but this didn't present a problem.
I did however talk to two different people at the consulate the day before interview about my concern and they both assured me that the middle name swapping was not a problem. Apparently this is a common problem in Vietnam. They also stated that name corrections are done the day of the interview based on the beneficiaries birth certificate.

I'm happy to announce that HT had her IR-1/CR-1 approved at the interview today :-)
I'm putting down a few sentences about the process, in the hope that it may help someone else.
a) The guard allowed me to accompany HT into the consulate for her interview. Just had to show my US passport.
b) Arrived at the consulate at 7:15 am. After passing through the metal detector station and giving up our cell phones, we passed through to the inner 'shed' which had 2 lines - one for immigrant and the other for non-immigrant.
Groups of about 15 people were let in alternately from each line.
c) Once you enter the main hall, the first window that you come to is where they check your appointment letter etc and give you a ticket with a number on it.
d) The main hall has rows of benches/chairs and on the RHS, about 15 feet away are a row of 15 glass windows where the actual interview takes place.
e) Waited... read complete review
