My visa was approved after a hard time at the consulate, but it was approved faster than I expected.
On my initial interview on Nov 2nd, I was given the 221g blue slip. I was required to submit additional proof. To be fair, my case had quite a number of red flags: 23 years of age gap; getting to know each other from an online dating site in Jan 2015; having met in person for only once, for 2 weeks in March 2015; getting engaged after only 3 months of talking online and meeting in real life for half a month; not having a traditional Vietnamese engagement ceremony; my American fiance's divorce was just finalized in Sept 2014; he filed 2014 tax jointly with his ex wife; he stayed at his ex wife's house (previously their old house) for 2 months last June and July (to help fixing the house and sell it); he was divorced twice (his 1st marriage last only one year, his 2nd marriage last 18 years); he has three children...

My fiance went in for her interview on November 13th. She arrived there at about 7:30 in the morning and was done by 11:30 a.m. She said it was very simple. They asked a couple of simple questions, asked to see some pictures of us together, and they approved her. The days leading up to the interview, she was worried about what to expect, but she said that it was easier and less stressful than she thought was going to be. Overall a very good experience.

Thuy, Nguyen and I arrived around 7:00am for our 8:00am interview. We arrived to an already lengthy line of people but the wait wasn't long. We showed our passports and verification of appointment and after being searched with a wand were able to go inside. We went through another security checkpoint and at that time I was asked to wait on a bench as Thuy and Nguyen proceeded. Everyone was very friendly and the process seemed to go quickly for most. 1-3 questions were asked to each person and most were approved. The interviewer spoke with Thuy and Nguyen together and separately. Nguyen was asked about five questions and Thuy 8-10. I was called 👏🏻up and asked 10 questions. All questions seemed pretty straight forward and easy to answer with the exception of the questions r/t our same gender relationship.
After I answered my final question the interviewer requested that I call my fiancé and son back to the window. Once we were all present we were congratulated an... read complete review
