We're done! Woohoo, Finally. So here's how it went down: my husband's appointment was November 7, 2008 at 8am at the London Embassy. Having read reviews prior his the appointment, he promptly showed up at 7.20 looking for a long line of nervous immigrant hopefuls, and there weren't any.
He looked around for the proper entrace, since there was nobody there he couldn't figure out where he was supposed to go. Then an English security guard lead him in, and told him that new security regulations mean that the embassy is not allowed to book too many interviews in one day to avoid a Disneyland-esque line of people waiting around outside. This is perhaps why it took nearly two months from the time of our NVC approval to our actual interview date.
Once inside, he was given a number, he was the first one there. While he waited, they gave him a cup of coffee and asked him if he wanted to go get breakfest before waiting for his actual appointment. He decided to wait... read complete review

I had my K1 interview on Wednesday and got my visa today (Saturday) and I just wanted to post about my experiences with the London Embassy and the courier service.
The interview was short and non-threatening - I got there just before 9am as requested, and waited about an hour and a half to see the first guy. (You sit in a crowded lounge and watch the screens for your number being called - along with some short films of US propaganda .) He was lovely and just checked my paperwork and took it away, and asked me to pay the fee (£84). He told me that they were working to a 3-5 day delivery target at the moment. He also gave me my x-ray to keep in case the US doctors ask for it.
I then waited another hour or so to have my "interview", where the nice american woman (everyone else seemed to be English) asked me about where I met Dave, when we got enagaged, why he isn't coming to live in the UK, and whether I have ever lived out of the UK for more than a year bef... read complete review

The interview went very smoothly. I arrived at 8.00am and was out at 9.30am.
The security check point outside the Embassy was efficient and they supplied a plastic bag in which to put loose change, belts, bangles etc. It was then like airport security, put the bag and other loose items such as papers in a plastic tray and then walk through the body scanner.
Once through security it is a walk round the outside of the building to the visa entrance which is up some stairs. Once through the glass doors there is a reception desk where they issue you with a number on two stickers. You are then directed up some stairs to the waiting area.
In this waiting area there are loads of chairs facing some screens which show which numbers are waiting and when numbers are called up which kiosk to go to. A voice also calls out the numbers as they come up for interview. It is like being in Argos. My wait was about 40 minutes to be called up for the first... read complete review

Interview was very easy and straight forward. There was a lot of waiting around (3 hours total), but the actual interview was very quick (not more than 10 mins). I got called to the window to pay the fee and hand over my documents, the guy was super nice. Then a wait. Then called back for a few questions about how we met and how long it took us to get engaged, this woman was more business like but perfectly nice. They didn't ask anything nasty or difficult.

We arrived at 8am. No cellphones, laptop, but I DID have my USB key/chip and car keys which had an electronic fob for unlocking. Both were considered an "electronic" item. The girls mentioned there were some cafes on the corner. I found the pharmacy that stores one small bag for 10 pounds. That seemed ridiculous, so I went to Starbucks, and "left" my keys at the counter. The girl was not happy with me, but I was not going to pay 10 pounds to leave a tiny, tiny rental car key! I threw away my USB key as it was a corporate gift.
So we got in.
Were called up after around 45 minutes...by now it's 9:15am. We showed our paperwork, copies AND originals (definitely have copies of everything, b/c they WILL keep a copy of everything.) He asked me about my PhD, and whether or not I had proof from my university that I could complete my research from the US.
