Monday 21st March 2011
Interview at the Embassy.
On this day I woke up at 5:20am. I left my house at around 5:53am. I jumped on the 6:08 train (The early one but still quite busy). I took the district line train to Westminster and then the Jubilee line to Bond Street. I took this route as there are far less crowds for that time of morning whereas the central line is hot and overcrowded.
I arrived at Bond Street station and approx 7am. Oxford street was really empty for a change and the shops hadn’t even opened yet. I then made my way to the embassy. It was a short 5 minute walk away. Once I had arrived, there were three women to the right of the Embassy getting their papers ready. They all looked a little nervous. I stood the in queue which had about 4 people in front of me. However none were applying for the same type of visa that I was. Some of the embassy employees then came out and checked our documents (Packet 4). Only about 10 minute... read complete review

Reading the London Embassy reviews on VJ really helped when I was preparing for my 9yr old son and my interviews. Our interview time allocated was 8:30am, so we arrived at 7:20am, in plenty time. There were already about 15 people in the queue before us. At 7:45am, the security people started to let us in, 2 or 3 at a time. They checked our appointment letters and passports and then directed us through the airport style security. On clearing this, we were directed to an initial reception desk where we were allocated the number I-900. Then instructed to take a seat on the next level in the waiting room. I had brought plenty of things to keep my son amused as we were told that we would have a long wait (and of course you aren't allowed any IPods or electronic games!) We were only seated about 10 mins when our number was called. We went to the indicated window and a young English guy proceeded to check through our documentation. He asked my husband's name and when we were married (i... read complete review

I'll start at the end – the consular officer we spoke to was charming and pleasant as others have described. He asked very few questions (How did you meet your fiancée? Not much else) and then helpfully explained the remainder of the process, since the visa was approved.
The consular office was clearly an educated professional with a relaxed pleasant outlook who appeared to enjoy meeting people.
The administrator we spoke to an hour earlier was also pleasant and helpful. She assembled the package of documentation and included the material we brought (copies of birth certs, police report, the CD from the doctor, I-134 etc). She played down an initial moment of confusion recognising it as nervousness. It was just confusion over terminology (applicant/petitioner/beneficiary, who was who). She was kind and reassuring and non-confrontational.
There was a moment of confusion over the Affidavit Of Support. I (the USC) was present and when sh... read complete review

My interview was meant to be 9am. I set off early and was outside the embassy for about 8. I found it really easily, I remembered a review I read on here saying the building didn't look like an embassy...IT HAS A MASSIVE GOLDEN EAGLE AND A GIANT U.S. FLAG ON. You can't really miss it. Queued for about 20mins (the queue was small compared to what it looked like an hour later), went through security and arrived at the front desk. They took my visa payment page and then gave me a sticker with a number on it. I sat down in the waiting area, the system they have is like Argos, you watch the screen and wait until your number comes up. I waited about an hour...I have no idea since there aren't ANY clocks in the place. Then i was called to the window. The lady was chatty and friendly, I liked her. She took my fingerprints and she hardly took any of my financial evidence (I brought tons for the I-134s just in case) and took my original birth certificate, deed poll and police certificate as well... read complete review

Waking up at 5:15 has never been so easy. I showered, ate some cereal, drank some coffee and headed out to the train station. £15 for a return on the 6:10 to London Liverpool Street, and at 6:40, I was getting on the central line to Bond Street. Coming out of the station, I turned left and walked toward Selfridges. With nature calling loudly, I ducked into a Starbucks and then bought a latte for queueing up. I waited outside Gould's pharmacy for it to open and stored my phone and camera and bought 2 US sized photos. The queue was starting to build up, loads of students doing camp America were going for their work visas. A girl behind had a UK sized photo and was told by her friends to go get a US one incase they decline her on the wrong sized photo.
The queue moved pretty quickly from 7:30 onwards. I was told to line up on the left rather than with the nonimmigrants and was nearly rushed through security. I went around the corner and told to wait in the waiting room with no. I9... read complete review
