So today I had to attend the US embassy in London for my interview in relation to my K1 visa and thought I'd share my experience with others.
Although I'm only 30 miles outside of London, it was still an early start with me leaving the house at 5am to make sure I was there ready for my 8.30 interview.
First stop was Gould Pharmacy on North Audley Street. I should think the actual pharmacy side of the business is a minor part of the business, this place is set up to help folk attending the embassy. A line of desks are set up along the left of the shop as you enter where staff are ready to help, although at 7.30 when I arrived, it was quiet (not so quiet when I returned to pick up my stuff). The staff at will run through a list of prohibited items, and supply a small jiffy style bag to put your stuff in. I managed to get my iPhone, headphones and bunch of keys in there easily. £3.00 well spent in my eyes. Out of Gould's turn right and the embassy is literally a 2 minute wa... read complete review

Arrived at 8:30, staff outside very helpful and no queue for security. Appointment was at 9 but I didn't get seen at the first window until 10:30. Waited another hour and a half and finally I got to the main interview. The interviewer was a fairly young American man, very polite and easy to talk to. Some of the questions were unusual, for example he asked me for my fiancee's Skype name (I told him we used this to chat at first but I changed her name a long time ago on there so I didn't remember it). Once I was approved I paid for the courier service (£36 for the privalege) and I was done. Nothing scary, nothing difficult, just long and boring, bring entertainment!

We were approved on Monday 3rd Dec, so it's happy days all the way! :-D
I won't bore you with the details, as there is more than enough info on the procedures.
Took about 2 1/2 hours in all, and was very smooth, and professional. This was my third time there having gone for J1 visa's for Camp America, and a student visa, so I knew pretty much what to expect. Although you can't help being nervous, I would say just try and keep calm, as at this stage of the process, as long as you have you documents in order, you'd be more likely to get hit by a meteor than be denied!
Handed all my docs in, sat down for another hour or so, then got called to the window for the interview. He was a Asian-American man, and looked about the same age as me (25), and it was more like an upbeat conversation, than an interrogation. How did you guys meet, how long have you known one another etc more like chatting in a pub with a mate. Then he was like "Your visa has b... read complete review

Nothing really that different to report from the other VJers; same process of queuing outside, showing interview letter to get in, then handing over MRV receipt once inside where you get a ticket number. As I know you're all fascinated, mine was I926. I waited for 1.5 hours before being called to hand over passport, MRV receipt, birth certificate and copy and police report. General ID questions asked and fingerprints taken. Then given a courier form to fill out for delivery of passport and told to sit back down until my number was called again.
My name was called about half an hour later and went to the window. Asked to fill in her name and sign my name on a form and then I answered general questions:
How we met?
Where?
What does she do?
How will I support myself financially?
A few family questions about hers and mine...
...and then after maybe five minutes he said my visa was approved! Simple. Long wait but real... read complete review

Interview at the US Embassy - "Your visa has been approved. You're good to go."
10-26-12
It was a very thorough and quite probing interview, and one which was both very fair and measured in a way that made it feel like a conversation rather than an interrogation. I came prepared with documents, written and photographic evidence of the quality and honesty of the relationship, and also some evidence of why I had visited San Francisco so frequently in the previous 5 years. However, he did not want to see any of this. He wanted to hear me talk about the relationship. I was tempted at times to refer to material I had with me, but decided in the end that speaking to him with my eyes open would give him a perfectly true indication of my intentions and integrity.
Some of the questions he asked were:
Is your wife here? Why not?
How did you two meet?
Tell me about her family.
Have you met her mother?
How old is she? ... read complete review
