The reviews other have posted helped my husband and I as we prepared for each step of our journey so we wanted to return the favor:
* First, they *will not* allow you to enter the consulate without a valid passport. My husband lost his passport immediately before his 1st scheduled interview. He checked in at the consulate and they were extremely helpful in directing him to the UK passport office and such, but he was not able to attend that interview. (We were fortunately able to reschedule the new interview for 3 weeks from the first).
* The rescheduled appointment was for 9:30. My husband left his backpack and other bag along with a bag of his electronics at Goulds. No problems there. If you are leaving something larger (like a bag) then they tie the bag around the handle of your bag.
There was not a long line to enter the consulate and security was smooth and easy. You must have your interview letter with you and they will check y... read complete review

Pretty much exactly as I expected after reading all the other reviews.
There were some problems with the IT. The number display was just a locked Windows 7 display for ages before they realised and fixed it, during which time they were using a speaker system that seemed to be broken, you could only make out the first half of each word, it was impossible for a little while.
Other than that it all went swimmingly

So my appointment was scheduled for 9.30am and they tell you to not get there any earlier than half an hour (they really don't care about this) but I got there at around 8.15 and joined the first queue to sign in. There were around 20 people in this queue so it took about twenty minutes. You then join the second queue before you go into the security area 4 people at a time. Overall it probably took me about 40 minutes to get in. I know this is mentioned over and over again in reviews but really don't take electronics in with you! The poor girl at the check-in had to mention this about 4 million times! At one point she told everyone with electronics to step to the left (No joke at which point around 30 stepped left) and she physically walked them to the pharmacy.
So after being mildly baffled at how many people can't read instructions I entered the embassy and collected my number from the lady at the front desk.
Just a quick background on me. A few years ago I was ... read complete review

My interview was scheduled for 9am. I arrived at Gould's pharmacy (1min walk from the Embassy) at 7.30am, and left my bag (with all electronics, including HSBC internet banking keypad) and phone. I was in the queue outside the Enbassy 5 mins later.
Join the shorter queue on the left, they check you passport and appointment letter and give you a plastic bag to put your wallet, belt etc in. Then join the longer queue... you get put through security (airoirt style) in groups of four. Lots of people were turned away due to having headphones, USBs etc... they really mean no electronics. I was through security and inside by 8am. You go to a desk and get given a ticket number... mine was I-909 which I think meant I was the 9th immigrant visa of the day.
Then you go through into a large waiting room with lots of chairs... and numbered kiosks/windows along the right hand side (like in a bank). They started reading out the ticket numbers and windows over the ... read complete review

The last and easiest hurdle of the visa process was the consulate interview this week. Our appointment was 8.30am but like most, we arrived an hour early (7.30am) and joined a short queue outside the embassy. We were checked off the list and asked to wait to be called forward to go through security checks (like the airport but they only call 4 people forward at a time into the small security booth outside the embassy). My husband was with me and despite advising in advance he would be with me, the security people didn't have a record (several people here have mentioned similar problems). Security phoned through to the embassy and it seems they had a record somewhere because they let my husband through with me.
To avoid any problems at security we didn't take any electronic devices or large bags with us (they London embassy website said even back packs would not be allowed in). I had a bottle of water in my handbag which was no problem going through security. I had put all ... read complete review
