Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

I attended my spouse visa interview at the London embassy on the 10th of January 2023.

As posted by others here, there can be a long queue outside the embassy for visa appointments (in my case it was really windy and rainy!) - however if you mention to the staff at the front of the queue that you are attending for an immigration / green card appointment then they will allow you to skip the line.

Once inside, I went through security, and was advised to again skip the queue and speak to reception. They pointed me to the relevant area for my immigrant visa interview, and when I arrived my number was already called by one of the desks.

I went to the first window, handed over my documents (passport, birth certificate, marriage certificate, police certificate) and they were checked, plus one of my photographs was attached to the application. It's worth mentioning that I printed copies of all my documents and also took relationship evidence, but th... read complete review

We went down to London for the interview and got there around an hour early. They were able to check my husband in while I went to a coffee shop around the corner. Once we got in it took about 30 minutes. They asked him 2-3 questions to verify things and then he was approved!

After being DQ'd end of September, I had my interview on November 16, 2022

I arrived about 30 min early and waited in line - turns out this was a mistake as the line was very long and moved very slowly. 5 minutes before I was going to be late, I was eventually invited to jump the line and go straight to the desk as I was here for an immigrant visa. This is poorly indicated and could be improved as I'm sure a lot of people just stay in line and end up being late, which must cause a lot of unnecessary stress before the interview.

Directions to the relevant desk were clear and I was quickly called up to present my documents. The officer was pleasant, however I was surprised to find out that the original police records (UK and France) I brought along were in fact, copies. That was my mistake, driven mainly by the fact that the French certificate is no longer printed on secured paper so any copy looks like the original. Other documents were fine.

The whole process ended up taking around 2.5-3 hours, of which about 6 minutes was the actual interview. Staff managing the queues were friendly and helpful, and kept us moving as best they could. Unfortunately, the upstairs windows seemed to be having some trouble and so I and others were stuck downstairs in the lobby for a long while awaiting the "okay" to send more people up.

Interview process itself was painless, first window checked my documents and took fingerprints. No fuss. Second window was the questions and again didn't take any more time than was necessary, officer was very friendly and was more than happy to clear up questions before sending me on my way with the immigration pack.

The longest wait, as everyone might confirm, is the line outside the Consulate. Once I got it, I submitted my passport and DS-260 and was instructed to go to the first floor and then make two lefts. I sat for about 3 minutes before being called. The visa officer was very pleasant and thanked me for making his life easy by having all my documents organized, etc. He got everything he needed and told me to take a seat. After about 5-10 minutes, I was called to another window and asked basic questions such as the name of the company, whether my company will be deducting my salary, and what I do on a day to day for the company. He was very polite and said he will approve but he needed to see to police certificate. I left the embassy but got my certificate in 2 days, sent it to the embassy on a Wednesday, and my visa was issued two days later.

Advice - answer honestly, be confident, and be polite/respectful.

Ps: some additional info. I got DQ'd August 12, got ... read complete review
