I arrived and joined the line at 8am for an 8.30am. In hindsight I wish I has ignored the embassy letter and arrived earlier as it took about 30 minutes to get through checks and security and to collect my raffle ticket the embassy building is a strange one - very modernist and very circa Soviet Union 1960s - very out of place with the period buildings of the square. The line to enter is also on the side of the square and you should check in with the ladies at the tables before joining the queue. Some people didn't and unfortunately were asked to rejoin the queue at the back.

After padding through security and walking around the building, you enter through glass doors and collect your ticket from reception. You are then directed into an oblong sports hall type room with big screens on the front of the wall.

I waited four hours for my number to pop up on the screen. I think the I numbers take a lot longer than the other number tickets.... read complete review

My appointment was for 9am on 23rd October. I arrived at the Embassy at around 8.15 after leaving my phone at Goulds. As I had travelled to London the previous day and was flying out to Germany the next day, everything else had been left at the hotel. I was very nervous going into the Embassy because I had previously had 3 visitor visa refusals. I received my I number and sat down to wait for my number to be called. It seemed that most of the I cases were at the first window for around 20 minutes, so I was able to work out that I would have a wait of about 1-1.5 hours before I was called to the first window. Once my number was called, I went to the window and was greeted by a friendly male officer. He took my fingerprints and asked for my passport - at this point I explained that I was not able to leave my passport with them that day because I was travelling on the 24th, but that I would return it to them as soon as I was back in the UK on the 30th. He said that was fine and to... read complete review

There are some really great reviews on here so I'm sure I'm just repeating what others have said, but I read about a million of these leading up to my own interview and found them so, so massively helpful. When I got there I knew exactly what to expect which really stood me in good stead for the day. I was much calmer and even found myself able to reassure others! So here goes:

The Outside:
-Pitched up at the consulate at 6:57AM. When people advise you to get there early, they aren't kidding - get there as early as possible! When I arrived there were about 10-15 people in line. I was just entering the actual consulate at 8AM! The staff outside were all very helpful and nice, joking with and chatting with people waiting. Don't worry too much about not knowing where to stand, when they want you somewhere they will let you know

-As others have noted, they are very strict about the no electronics thing. Just save yourself the hassle ... read complete review

My interview was on November 14th. I won't go into the general details because there are plenty of details (about getting there early, what to expect, electronics, etc) already given very thoroughly by others. My circumstances differed from most others for the following reasons: both my fiance and I are in our 40's and have each been married twice before; we both have kids; my eldest son is following to join after his exams finish in June so was not included in the interview (he is 20); my youngest two children are travelling with me; my youngest child was adopted from overseas AND I have a history of denied visas at the London Embassy. All this meant a whole heap more paperwork, stress and a longer and more thorough interview.

The first window experience was great. I met the famous young African American lady who was sooo nice and really helped calm my nerves. I brought birth certificates plus photocopies for myself and my two youngest kids (one was a UK adoption c... read complete review

Interview day arrived, I joined the queue 45 minutes prior to my 9 am appointment. The staff were polite but not over friendly. They can't be i guess. I was told to go to the front of the queue and let them know i was here and to then rejoin the queue. Staff patrolled the queue reminding about no electricals, belts and watches also had to be removed.
Went through security, into the building and was given a number. sat and waited for first call, showed all my paper work that was asked for. Sent back to sit down and wait for my second call.
When recalled it was to a different window and a different person, was asked a series of questions inc how we met, how many children we both have, did i get on with his Momma, his job, how much it paid etc. At the end she just looked at me and said Approved...I could have burst on the inside, I thanked her, went to pay the DXfee and left...time from beginning to end approx 4hrs 15 mins.
As i said earlier the staff are polite, e... read complete review
