Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

The staff in the Immigrant Visa section were very helpful and friendly. Filing the I-130 was very easy and there were very little questions asked when we were both there together.

My husband went to the final interview alone and even though we had given them documents in the first interview a month prior, they wanted to see everything again. Unfortunately, I did not send the original proof of relationships documents with my husband as I thought we had already turned them in and they saw them and kept what they wanted. They gave my husband a hard time about that, so he had a longer interview with questions that were based on information that we had written on the forms... like "Who is Melanie" (my mother), etc. Easy questions if you are a valid couple!

Even though it says that the American spouse doesn't have to be there, they seemed to question why I wasn't there. (I was 12 weeks pregnant and not feeling well enough to deal with Ukrainian trains). ... read complete review

My interview went very smooth. I called on Mon, Jan 28 to find out if they got our approved petition from NVC (NOA2: Jan 7,) and they had it. I was very surprised that they offered February 4 for the interview, only a week after I called. It was scheduled for 9.30am.

TIME. I arrived at the Embassy at 8.40am. There were few lines set up according to the interview appointments time – 8:30-8:45, 9:00-9:15… (For me, it looked as a certain improvement; last two times when I was getting a student visa –2002, 2004, there would only be a crowd of people in front of the gates and you’d simply scream ‘Who is last for 9:30?’ to know where is the virtual line you belonged to. Now, it seemed a bit more organised.) So, I got into my 9:30-9:45 line. There were four people in front of me and, by 9:30, there were about thirty-forty people behind me. Later, I found out that everyone in front of me was scheduled for 9:45, so I was let inside before them (as all 9:30 people were... read complete review

My fiancee arrived early in the morning and waited in line. It was well below freezing outside and she was sick with a fever. They still made her wait outside, but that was to be expected.

It was January 10, just after the Christmas holiday for Ukrainians. The embassy had been closed the prior weekend and the website was not up and running. Some policies changed on January 1 so the instructions that they sent her were no longer current. We did not know if the new policy would affect us or not and we had no way of finding out because the website was down for days and nobody was at the Embassy to answer questions before she left for Kiev.

People stand outside the embassy dressed like embassy officials. They ask to see your papers and then they tell you that things are no longer correct because of policy change and they tell you to go "around the corner" and pay money so someone can fix your papers. This is a scam of course and the US Embassy does noth... read complete review

I did a post about this. No questions, save at processing: what does he do? where did you meet? The actual interview had no questions at all, none, the guy just asked for a good restaurant in Kyiv, apparently he was new. So there you have it. Plenty of sleep lost over something I would lose plenty of sleep all over again
