Most of the reviews for this Embassy is quite long and detailed that cover the basics so I will keep mine brief and highlight the differences in my personal experience.

We showed up at the Embassy by 7:30 for our 8:00 appointment. There were a lot of people waiting when we arrived but this did not seem to hinder the process. I can't remember exactly but I think the whole process took about 2 hours.

The guard asked my Fiance his last name and shorty after that we lined up and went through security. They do not allow water, chap stick and things like that...they will check it and give you a number. One odd thing at this point was they asked my Fiance to go outside and open up the envelope that had the medical papers inside. Strange but did not seem to matter with the person in the interview, which I was a tad worried about the fact that they would not accept the forms in an open envelope. Once through security we were directed to a sit and wait to be called to a small table with two women sitting there checking everyone's documents. I liked this because they organized all our papers and the women even corrected(in red ink)a mistake I made on the DS-156. We then sat for about another 2 minutes until we were called inside to get our number.

Once inside we sat in a room with service windows and watched the people come and go until we were called. The first women we talked to was all business and collected our basic papers. Everything but the evidence. All they wanted for the I-134 were my taxes from last year. I had more documents but she was not interested. She then asked me to sit down so she could ask Balvino a few questions. He did fine and answered the basic questions such as, How did you meet?, How old is your Fiancee? but then she asked him a question that upset him. She asked 'Why didn't you fall in love with a girl from your hometown?' He was a little upset by this question and simple said 'I love my Fiance'. We were both a little upset about this question. When I came to the window she implied that I did not know Spanish and asked how we communicate? I told her I do speak Spanish but I am not fluent. I was not happy with her attitude and she even rolled her eyes. I know there is a need to ask questions but she was a tad unprofessional...I was not interested in her personal opinion. Once we handed in our evidence she backed off. We had a pile of emails photos and the best evidence was the number of flights I had made to visit my Fiance. EVIDENCE is important!

Overall my experience with the Embassy was pleasant. They were helpful in preparing us for the interview. The last women that we spoke to was very nice and laughed and smiled a lot. She told us we were approved and our visa was ready in two days.

Besides a couple minor things, we both give our k-1 experience via Managua an A++.

From the moment we received the NOA2 we were in contact with Blanca Perez, ManaguaConsularIV@state.gov, who was a tremendous help. She not only answered the gazillion questions that I had, she also forwarded us the packet via email once the petition reached the Embassy, eliminating the time it would take to be devilvered by mail.

Once our petition reached Managua it was all extremely fast. Blanca emailed me to tell me that the case was there and attached the petition. Yader went the following day to pick up the hard copy from the embassy within the alotted time fram (1-3 pm). We thought it was necessary for the medical, but later found out that we could've used the email copy.

The following day he had his medical which took the majority of the day. He saw Dr. Gilberto Martinez at Clinica Plaza España. It ended up costing a lot more than the base 195$ because of missing vaccines (be prepared, he had at least 5!).

We already had everything ready, so we just signed and dated and I emailed Blanca the second Yader was done with the medical to schedule the interview. Note...much faster to schedule via email. Be nice to Blanca, dont abuse her, but she can be VERY helpful. She gave us the first available interview which was Friday, Feb 13 (eek). --2 weeks later.

I flew down for the interview, so I dont know if it was easier because of that, but our interview was a breeze!

We arrived at 7:15 am and stood in line out front. The officer there was very friendly and checked off Yader's name. after about 30 min we passed inside through a security check. Then went back outside on the other side and through another security check. Then they asked to see his passport and told us to take a seat. It was about 7:45 am and the room was packed. there is a line of windows and everyone sits facing them. I thought there was surely another room where our interview would be, but I was mistaken.

After a little while we were called up, we were able to go together. A very friendly young guy asked us for the DS-156, Affidavit and taxes, birth certificate and divorce decree. he also asked for some of our evidence, primarily passport stamps and photos, we didn't give him everything as not to overwhelm him
He asked us a few questions:
How long have you known eachother?
How did we meet? Where?
How long have we been in a relationship?
Where did we work? (we worked together)
How many times had I been to visit?
How old is Yader's son?
Then he told us to take a seat.
We waiting a little longer and then the consular called Yader's name. Again, I was able to go. She asked if we spoke English or Spanish. We chose Spanish. She asked Yader to swear it was the truth and sign the DS-156K. (He said at that point he knew we had it ). Then she asked the exact same (I swear) questions the first guy asked while browsing through our evidence. I offered here a couple more different types of evidence which she took, and then looked at the pictures (while smiling), and asked who the letters were to and from (we had various from his family members to me, vice versa, and him-me, etc).
Then she said, Felicidades! Esta aprobado! and that was it!

We tried not to celebrate to big because, as I said, the whole room was watching us, and as far as we could tell we were the first approved that day. We left the consulate at 9:30 am.

The only complaint we have is, they were to mail his passport with visa, but the embassy mail for whatever reason does not go to his home in Ciudad Sandino, so we were supposed to pick it up at Linda Vista's post office the next friday (after one week). When we went to get it, it wasn't there. Yader went back to the embassy and they almost didn't listen to him, but for whatever reason, they admitted it was there logistical error and promised him that if he came back at 3 pm it would be ready for him. wow!!!

go managua!

I had been in communication via e-mail with the consulate even before we got our NAO2 (ManaguaConsularIV@state.gov). I had a lot of questions and most of my e-mails were answered by Blanca Perez. She e-mailed me packet 4 (there was no packet 3) the day that the consulate in Managua received our case from NVC on Oct 7th. This obviously was much faster than waiting for them to mail it as mail in Nicaragua can be quite slow. Packet 4 is basically a list of everything (in spanish) that you need to gather for your interview. The last page is a consolidated check list that you are supposed to fax when all is ready. As a side note my fiance never faxed the page as I scheduled the interview for him via e-mail. I gathered what I needed to send my fiance and sent it to him via regular mail. There was a delay in gathering all documents due to external circumstances. I scheduled the interview for Jan 9, before he had all his documents as he was supposed to pick up the last one on Jan 6. Long story short, he ended up not having the document on the interview day, but we found out too late to reschedule. I was told previously that he could be interviewed without the document and the visa would be pending until the document was delivered to the consulate.
This is my fiance's account of what happened. Arrived at the embassy at 7:30am. Went through security. Was told to sit and wait until his name was called. Waited about an hour until his name was called. The first officer took his documents, our evidence, kept some of it (e-mails, my detailed cell phone bills) and the certificates attached to the DS-156K (birth cert, police cert, I-134. She asked him how old he was, how old I was and then told him to have a seat again. Waited another 15 mins or so. Name called again, this time the questions were asked by another woman. How, where and when did you meet? When did you become boy friend/girl friend? How do you communicate? How often? What are you going to do with the visa? What are you going to do in the states? That was all for questions. They did not tell him he was approved because he needs to bring them the singless certificate (the missing document) next week. However, the second woman stamped "aprovado" on two different pieces of paper, gave him another piece of paper with what was missing, and that was it. He called me at 10:30 (9:30 nica time) to tell he was approved pending the document he needs to bring next week. I was in a business meeting and excused myself. My heart was pounding, body shaking and wanted to cry. Had to pull it together to go back into the meeting. I'll add more when we he actually has the visa!

Hello guys, It was a really crazy!!! The interview was fast... but looooooooooooong.... They asked me almost everything in Loto's guide... lol.. well not exactly but they insisted a lot in how we met and how many times did he come to see me!!! I say they because there were 2 officers at the same time and then a girl named Blanca took my fingerprints and give me my white slip so i could pick up my passport on the 16th.

I arrived at 7:30 and I left at 9:30, I was the 4th to call for residency interviews, the 3 persons before me got denials!!! First I was called to window 1 and they went through my file, they throw in the trash some of the papers that my husband submitted as affidavit of support, bank letter, deposits and some other stuffs, then they told me to wait, i waited for 2 min and then they called me at window 3 and after that the girl said "there's nothing wrong in your case, go to the P.O. and pick up your passport!

Here are the questions they asked me!

Q) Where and How did you meet?
Q) How long have you known each other?
Q) When and where did you marry ?
Q) Do you have any photos of the ceremony and/or reception?
Q) Where does he work and what position does he hold?
Q) What do you do for living?
Q) Where does he live in the USA?
Q) Do you have any children?
Q) Does he have any children? How many ?
Q) When and where was your husband's prior marriage?
Q) When and where was your husband's prior marriage termination/divorce?
Q) Do you need SSN when you arrive at the U.S ?
Q)Do you know his children?
Q)What evidence of relationship do you have? --> I HAD TONS, I JUST SHOWED THEM A HUGE FOLDER (THAT WAS THE RESUME OF EVERITHING ELSE THAT I HAD IN THE SUITCASE FULL OF EVIDENCE THAT I TOOK)

An hour later after I left the embassy they called me and said that I needed to come back because they needed to take my fingerprints again... So I drove as fast as I could and then waited like 10 minuts until the girl took my fingerprints again...

I asked if they were going to return my ORIGINALS and they say NO....

Well I can't tell it was easy, I was so confident so that helped a lot, NO DOUBT!

K3 Visa Interview in Managua, Nicaragua. (My USC husband was there with me, however, it was not neccesary)

Our interview in Managua was very smooth, no problems at all. You spend most of the morning inside the Embassy waiting your turn (so eat a good breakfast - no food is allowed inside).

We got there earlier and went through two security checks. (No Cellphones, cameras, perfumes or makeup bottles allowed). After that we waited in an air conditioned room. When they called out our number we walked up to the window where they checked to see if we had all our papers. We brought a box full of emails, letters, air plane tickets, and two photo albums. They did not look through them very much, I guess we overwhelmed them with so much evidence.

They asked us to sit down and after about 10 minutes we were called again to the window to talk with a consular officer. She was very nice and asked how we met, when we got married. Since we are both wildlife biologists she told us she lived in Africa for a while where there were amazing animals. And that was it. She said congratulations. And gave me a little slip to give to the post office people for delivery of my passport.

Everyone was very very nice and polite. Not a big deal at all if you have ALL of your papers. Actually they were very responsive before the interview. I had a serious of email communications with Blanca Perez and they even accomodated my interview date to coincide with my husband's visit down to Nicaragua.

You pick up your passport with visa at your local Correos de Nicaragua, and should take 3-4 days. You have to pay US$7.00

The NEW US embassy is a very nice building, HOWEVER, if you are driving your own vehicle you will have to park across the 4 lane round in the park (Piedrecitas) or at Enitel. Careful crossing the streets! They charge from C$30 - C$50 cordobas for parking. The Embassy does not allow parking in its lot, even if you are with the US Citizen. (This may have changed now, but it was the case when we went for our interview).
