The Tokyo embassy was very freindly but also very thorough. As long as you provide the embassy with the exact documents they ask for they will work your case very fast. The interview was easy. I (the petitioner) was able to request and was granted an interview date for my fiance. I attended the interview, only four questions were asked and they didn't ask to se any evidence. At the end of the interview we were told that we passed but one more document was required (NBI police clearance from Phils)and that our visa would be issued as soon as we delivered the document. We delivered the document and the embassy kept their word. We got the visa the next day.

Yes i was with my wife on our first interview. It was short. I thought this was the only one we would have but apparently not for she had to go on yet another. The questions were pretty simple and straight forward. First her and then me.They separated us for this. My only suggestion would be is that the embassy staff submit duplicate instructions to both of us. It was difficult for my wife to follow detailed and complex issues involving documents ,etc. She would have to email them to me so i could read through them and send responses back...I think if the embassy could simply email to both parties it would have solved some important issues quickly...Japan is a wonderful country and filled with hospitality.

Although the interview already happened almost two years ago, I wanted to get around to letting some others know how it went.

Our appoitment was at about 12:30PM on a Tuesday. Getting to Roppongi Hills on the subway wasn't that difficult. After leaving the train station, there is even a map of the surroundings, with the American consulate on it. However, we read the map backwards from our location in the subway, and ending up walking around for 45 minutes. Despite the fact that consulate is about 12 stories (if I remember), you can't really see it from the street anywhere (Too many other massive buildings).

After we found the building, We waited around the lawn with the rest of the K1 and K3 applicants. They schedule all of us for a certain time. Getting through the security was no big deal. Once inside (and it will take you another 20 minutes to go through second level security), you take a number, and wait your turn to get called to the window.... read complete review
