My families Visa was approved on 3/30 although we had our interview on 3/15 we were given a 221g Denial. But mainly just needed to get other documents. We sent them in an within a week as promised the Visa was issued.
All I can say is that the Tokyo Consulate is one of the easiest and friendliest consulates in the world. Let me give you a walkthrough :
We had our interview on 3/15... We were coming from Aichi Pref. with 2 kids so we decided to drive and look for a hotel. Since our interview appointment was at 9:15... It would of been impossible to catch the Shinkansen and make it on time. So we decided to drive and look for a nice comfortable hotel near the embassy. The closest hotels are the ANA, The New Otani or the Ritz but with prices of 80,000 yen per night. Forget it... We found some other hotels nearby about 1km away from the embassy but we needed something with a parking for our car. We found the Asia Center Hotel perfect for our needs. 10,000 ye... read complete review

We took a taxi there around 9:30am. It was already pretty crowded, but everything was organized. It was more like going to a DMV to get your license renewed than what I expected for a visa interview. Everyone we talked to was friendly and my fiancee and I both went up to the window during the interview. The interviewer (tall guy who was nice) asked me to sit down while he asked my fiancee a few questions then I went back up there. We have a waiver to file also, so we thought she might get the third degree, but it was quick and fairly painless. I think we spent about an hour there overall. I wish all government offices were as well run.

My appointment was at 8:30.
I got there around 8:00. There were 9 people waiting in front of me (my number was 209).
I got my first call around 8:45 and handed my documents.
Second call shortly after and got my X-ray back.
Third call and was asked for my family registry and told them I've given them with all my other documents.
4th call and got my fingerprints taken.
Waited about 30 minutes or so, around 9:30, they opened more windows
and started the interviews.
I was the third one to be interviewed. (around 9:40)
My interviewer was a young female and she was super nice.
We just has some casual conversation...not much of detail.
It only took about 3 minutes then I was approved!
She told me,
"8 years of relationship!? This is like one of the best visa we've given here!"
I left the embassy around 9:50.
Anyways, everyone at the embassy seemed ... read complete review
