Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My wife arrived about an hour earlier then her scheduled 9:30am appt. She said the appt time didn't mean anything because she was called 15 mins after she sat down.
First window she was called to requested her paperwork, passport, etc...
Second time she was called was for fingerprinting and third was for the interview.
She told me that everyone at this embassy was extremely nice and polite. The basic questions were asked about how we met, our families, jobs, etc... Nothing out of the ordinary. In fact she was in and out of there in an hour. Very efficient and everything went smoothly.

Review Topic: K1 Visa

I visited the US Embassy with my fiancee for her K1 interview. The actual interview was no more than 15 minutes. Most of the time - just waiting to be called. She did provide both hands for biometrics and we had to provide an ordered list of documents for our case.

The room had about 100 seats and was about 1/3 filled up Monday morning. There were 10 glass interview station booths with semi private walls between each. It felt more like a DMV, not so much a bank and difficult to imagine that one of the most important life interviews would be conducted in such a manner.

At about 9:30am, we had the interview after submitting documents ( her DS-156 and my I-134 bundle ). They kept most of my I-134 paperwork, but handed back some of my tax, bank, real estate papers. The room had seats for about 100 - some Russian family, an Indian family, some Japanese ladies with military husbands sat in the room..

I was fortunate to meet another woman whose fi... read complete review

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My families Visa was approved on 3/30 although we had our interview on 3/15 we were given a 221g Denial. But mainly just needed to get other documents. We sent them in an within a week as promised the Visa was issued.

All I can say is that the Tokyo Consulate is one of the easiest and friendliest consulates in the world. Let me give you a walkthrough :

We had our interview on 3/15... We were coming from Aichi Pref. with 2 kids so we decided to drive and look for a hotel. Since our interview appointment was at 9:15... It would of been impossible to catch the Shinkansen and make it on time. So we decided to drive and look for a nice comfortable hotel near the embassy. The closest hotels are the ANA, The New Otani or the Ritz but with prices of 80,000 yen per night. Forget it... We found some other hotels nearby about 1km away from the embassy but we needed something with a parking for our car. We found the Asia Center Hotel perfect for our needs. 10,000 ye... read complete review

We took a taxi there around 9:30am. It was already pretty crowded, but everything was organized. It was more like going to a DMV to get your license renewed than what I expected for a visa interview. Everyone we talked to was friendly and my fiancee and I both went up to the window during the interview. The interviewer (tall guy who was nice) asked me to sit down while he asked my fiancee a few questions then I went back up there. We have a waiver to file also, so we thought she might get the third degree, but it was quick and fairly painless. I think we spent about an hour there overall. I wish all government offices were as well run.
