From what my wife told me this was an overall easy experience. She arrived probably a little too early, the appointment was at 8:30 and she was there by 7:30 and was the only one there. I had prepped her with 5lbs of documents of our relationship, copies of all of our submissions, certified copies of our marriage, birth certificates and her police clearence. The procedure was not unlike anything else we have read in this forum. When she was called up for the interview the CO asked when we were married and was also concerned that we met in person only a month before we got married, which my wife explained that we had been video chatting a year prior. We had pictures, skype chat logs, insurance cards, you name it and he didn't ask to see anything. The CO told her to take a seat after the interview and this is were she got nervous, but about 15 minutes later he called her up and said we were approved!

This review is being written on behalf of my wife who completed her consulate interview in Tokyo on 3/11/13. My wife's appointment was set for 8:30am but she made sure to arrive an hour early after reading about other's experiences with very long lines. She was right to do so as she was second in line to go inside the embassy whereas there were close to a hundred other people waiting in line behind her. Once inside, her fingerprints were processed quickly and all her documents were processed and within 30 minutes she was called up to the interview counter. My wife does not speak English yet and we were not sure if her interviewer spoke Japanese, so in the days leading up to her interview we practiced and role played various questions and answers we anticipated. We were glad we did so because her interviewer spoke next to no Japanese! It all ended up being fine though and after about 10 minutes her interview was done and the interviewer told her congratulations. One important note for t... read complete review

Hello everyone!

Well, this VJ site helped me so much when I went through my visa process so here's my review from my interview at the Embassy in Tokyo, hope this helps!!

I arrived at the Embassy about an hour prior to my appointment time which was I believe at 9:00am. There was no line to get inside the Embassy, just an easy security check point where they take your cellphone.

There were a couple of people already inside, but not too many.

Remember this: be prepared to wait for an adequate amount of time.
Even though there are TVs to watch, it might be a good idea to bring a book to keep you occupied.

They asked me to come to the window three times total;

1. to submit all the paperwork I brought. - then wait.
2. to provide finger prints. - then wait.
3. to actually have an interview through glass window, standing.

At the interview, the interviewer basica... read complete review

Our appointment was at 8:30AM. When we arrived, we waited about 5 minutes before we were called to the window by the clerk who reviewed all the paperwork we submitted to NVC. She was very helpful and gave us the opportunity to revise some of the information we input on our DS-230. She gave my wife the option to change her name on the DS-230 from WifeFirstName HusbandLastName to WifeFirstname WifeLastName HusbandLastName. In short, she notified us that my wife can use her Japanese Last Name as her middle name. Clerk was also nice enough to explain everything to her in Japanese. After all our paperwork was in order, we waited for another few minutes to wait for others to get done with their interviews. When it was time for us, we were asked two questions:

1) If we swear to tell the truth?
2) How long have we been married?

Next thing we know the interviewer tells us the visa is approved and should be coming into our mail within a week. We alway... read complete review
