Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

With COVID19 and the restricted amount of people being allowed to go into the Consulate we were still prepared for a 2 hour interview process. It only took half of that time. They first checked for any sort of electronic devices and looked through my considerable file of documents until they felt there wasn't anything hidden. I was allowed to go through the security check point. When I made it to the interior where the offices I was the second in line. When it was my turn were I was asked what my appointment time was set for and for my passport, photo evidence of me and my husband having met, evidence of shared finances, and my passport photos. They then handed me a pamphlet on family violence and it explained my rights and told to read it since there would be questions about it during the interview. It seemed like maybe 20 minutes before I was called up. I was taken to a small room and interviewed.
I was asked to remove my facemask briefly to compare to my passport photos. The following questions were asked. What was my relationship to the person asking for me? How long I had known my husband? Where did we meet? Have we met in person? Did I have any children? Who were the kids living with? Did my husband have children and who were they living with? Was I married before? Was he married before? What does he do for a living? Am I working? Have I met or talked to his family. Has he met or talked with my family? Where does my husband, petitioner, live? How many times has he visited me in my country? Did I live abroad? How long had i lived abroad and where? Where do I live currently and with whom?
They didn't ask for any of the documentation I had taken with me and I had taken all of the original documents as directed. They handed me back my photo evidence and was told that everything was good.
We had a small hiccup in that the Consulate wanted a more recent apostille of a police report from the other country I had lived in. I hadn't been back there in almost 10 years and the evidence we provided was less than a year old. We were a little let down and started to scramble to figure out the fastest method to obtain the record but within 5 hours we received a phone call from the Consulate stating that they reviewed the case again and since I hadn't been back to that country in such a long time that they were accepting the fairly recent apostille of a police report and that the visa was granted. Although our moment of happiness was marred a little in the end we were grateful that we didn't have to procure a newer document. A delayed celebration but a celebration it is.
Overall our experience was pleasant and the Consulate advisor was nice even when explaining that the needed the newer document and the person that called was not the same person that did the interview but they too were pleasant to talk with.

Review Topic: IR-2 Visa

This review is for my (both unmarried/ under 21) step children. We arrived 90 minutes before the 12:55pm appointment. There was no line. I (the petitioner) was not allowed to go in with the kids. Only my spouse was allowed in.
They waited until they were called (12:45pm). The interview was pretty smooth. Surprisingly, it was mostly my spouse doing the talking. They basically reviewed the same evidence that was presented for our Adjustment of Status interview.
The whole interview was approximately 30 minutes with approval.

Visas are processed and mailed two days later to Quito. We emailed shortly after receiving an email that the visas were being processed and requested a pickup in Guayaquil due to emergency circumstances which was granted.

I was very happy with the Guayaquil Consulate.

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Okay so here's my review of the consulate in Guayaquil Ecuador. My wife's appointment was scheduled for July 31st at 8:30 a.m., I have been communicating with the consulate from time to time concerning our interview, and they were helpful in providing answers and resources. My wife and I just recently had a son, and so it was required that we would need to bring him with us as he still needs to breastfeed. When we arrived at first we weren't sure, but then they let my wife enter with the baby, however I needed to stay outside, which I understood because they want to limit the amount of people coming in. There was an official there that helped my wife with the baby. Overall the process was almost two hours, my wife said she waited about an hour, and then had a first interview with someone at a window, asking more basic information, digital fingerprints came next, and then a second interview which lasted longer around 15 minutes asking more detailed information about our relationship and our financial support. After that, they said congratulations and gave her a blue slip of paper that showed how the Visa would be processed. I had learned via my email conversations that we could request to have the Visa picked up following day, however the official said we would need to wait 10 days to my wife. She said that perhaps he didn't understand her correctly, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to send an email to them. The next day I heard back saying that we could pick the Visa up the following day, meaning 2 days after the interview we would be able to pick up the Visa. We are super grateful for that. We're also quite excited that we were approved for the Visa as we had been waiting a total of around 8 to 9 months for the process to complete. I'm quite relieved and excited then I can return to the United States with my wife and son. Overall the experience was very smooth at the Guayaquil consulate, I meticulously gathered all of the required documents and had originals ready from all of the documents scanned to the NVC. My wife told me that they actually only looked at a small portion of the documents required, maybe because we already have a child together and that we've been living together all this time. The documents they looked at that were most important I think were the police record, migratory movement of my passport in the country, marriage certificate, and our son's birth certificate and the medical exam. the staff was friendly and courteous, and from what my wife told me, the consulate officials were friendly and courteous as well. Thankful to be passed this part in the process.
