We had a good experience at the consulate. You wait outside on the sidewalk until they call your appointment time, about 30 minutes before your appointment. Our appointment was at 10:00 and we got there at 9:00 just to have time to see how things worked. We had no problems passing through security- we only brought our papers in manila envelopes- we didn't bring bags or cell phones. Make sure to say that you are there for a visa de residencia, the only other choice is tourismo, and we gave them the print out of our appointment confirmation. We handed all our paperwork to the first woman who called us up. She asked my fiance questions while I stood with him but she didn't ask me anything directly. We had to leave to retake his photos because they weren't of his head only- it wasn't a big deal but just be very careful with the specifications they ask for. When we got back with the pictures he had his fingerprints done. Then we were called up to a second woman who asked more questions- aga... read complete review

Yesterday was our interview. I was disgusting prepared and still kind of stressed out. Our interview was at 10 so we got there at 930 and was able to push around the tourist visas to get to the immigrant visa line.
We were escorted in. We left everything in the hotel besides our papers in manila envelopes. Everyone was very friendly. Once inside we sat downstairs in the immigrant visa section and waited to be called. First we were called up to a window to hand in our papers. It was really hard to hear the woman and she was very "fria" but by the end she was nice and told me to stop giving her evidence because what I gave was sufficient. She asked questions and typed up the answers. My fiance then got his fingerprint done and we were called up to the next window where an american woman asked us about 10 questions and said your visa is approved. We were back in the hotel by 1030. It was a really process for us which I was not expecting. And the thing I was surprised most about wa... read complete review

Wife got in line at 6:30 in the morning, turned away because she had a folder instead of just a regular envelope for her docs. She went back to her hotel across (Oro Verde)the street, and was able to get an envelope to put them in. Let in without had to go through the line again. Sat very close to the CO and was able to hear all the good and horrible interviews conducted by him. She waited for almost 6 hours with only 6 other people left in the room. CO asked why her son is not coming with her and she answer it truthfully (he doesn't want to), where does her husband work, how much does he make, made a couple of stupid jokes, etc. In general, it was a pretty smooth process with the exception of horrible treatment by local rent-a-cop.

I stood in line for my 7:15 am appointment at 6:15 am, and four families were already in line before me just outside the consulate. Just before 7 am, they started checking people's interview letters and photographs to let us into the building. I advise you take nothing but your documents, otherwise they'll make you either throw it away or take it back to your hotel. They scheduled 35 people for 7:15 am that day (all IV applicants, although I was the only CR1), so I'm thinking that how much time in advance you get there really makes no difference. They called people's names in no noticeable order - although my guess is that we were being called based on our NVC case number. Still, I could have arrived at 7:15 am and I feel like it would've been just fine.

They started interviewing applicants at 7:45 am. My name was called to turn in documentation and fact-check at around 9:30 am. A lady asked me the general "how did you meet"/"how long have you been together" kind-of-qu... read complete review
