Review Topic: K1 Visa

Carmen and I arrived at the embassy at 6:15 and stood in line 3 until about 6:50. During that wait they checked for the interview letter and looked at the passport. They also gave us green stickers to signify the K visa. We then waited in area 40 for the woman to check the paperwork and sign us in. She gave us a file to put the paperwork in order. Make sure to have the DS 230 Part 1 (even though the appointment letter does not mention it).

To have the paperwork signed in more quickly we sat on the stone benches as close to the sign 40 and table as we could. Even though we were close to the first people that got signed in we were one of the last to be called for the intial paperwork to be checked (Window 30)(about 11:30 - we were waiting close to 3.5 hours to be called to the window). They looked like they picked the order of people by random. Once Carmen went to this window the woman was asking Carmen how we met, how long we have known each other, how many times I had v... read complete review

(Note: tips at the end of this review)
First things first...get there early. Others on this thread have suggested that getting there before 6:45 doesn't make any difference. We got there at 5:45, maybe 30 people in front of us. Most of them got into line 1 when we got to the embassy entrance. We went into line 3 which is the proper place for K1 visas. The embassy shuffles people to the correct lane at about 6:45. By that time, 90 percent of the people for k1's and k3's were behind us. We were intervied at 9:40. In that cold waiting area, which is open air, time stands still. Cases are taken in order after people go to the windows. Having your paperwork complete makes getting the paperwork from the first window to the biometrics window faster. The person at the first window has to arrange all of the paperwork, hands you back the non-essential.
Some people are cold, some are warm. Don't worry about the personality, just go there with everything in order and you will... read complete review

We arrived in the consulate at 6:30am, and we got it using line #3. I see no point in going earlier. We where given a folder to organize the documents, then the first window cross checked them and asked us to wait. The wait was very LONG!!! Finally they called her at 12:30, I waved to the consular staff and smiled and he smiled back. I went back to me seat. They interview last less than 5 minutes, my fiancee said everything was in English and the only questions they asked where some photos and how many times I came to see her. That was it. We received the visa after 4 business days.

We arrived at 630am .Got into line #3.We where instructed to go to an area where we waited for our name to be called then given a folder to line up documents they wanted to see. Then called to window for review of these.Told to go to another area where they finger printed. Then wait in same area for the interview it was fast three simple questions ask me took one minute. Was thanked for coming as everything is in order and Visa approved she said its makes her job alot easier for coming to Bogota.Oh she asked for edvince look at photo's very quick 30 seconds i figured. Then told us to go to pay for Visa delivery or pick it up there at the location. We paid the 25,000 and picked it up in three busniess days .. We left the Embassy at 12:30pm ..
