My experience was okay at the consulate. I went two months ago to apply for my husband's immigrant visa and they turned me down because I had a tourist visa. The first lady who helped me wasn't much of a help and just said I need to be a resident to apply. I got the temporary residence visa and went back to the embassy to apply again and they didn't accept the forms either because apparently now you need to have permanent residence in order to apply for the relative visa to the US embassy in Chile. The lady at the embassy recommended I apply for a K-3 fiance visa and an immigrant visa at the same time to speed the process up.

Hi All,
I just wanted to say that Stgo Chile USA Embassy really sucks. What make them sucks It's actually people from Chile that work in the Embassy, that make the service really bad and rude. I had a hard time filling K3 for my wife but We finally got it. Anyway They're really sucks even though I'm USA citizen. Just wanted to share my experience. Good luck everyone...

I entered the Embassy compound around 11:30, since I had a temporary handycap they helped me to the Visa hall. Impecable service, great people and super attention. A local chilean employee looked at my documents, she corrected 2 things with a pen then told me to sit until I was called.
I waited for about 20mins sitting until my name was called out by another local employee and I was sent to window. The embassy official (american) was polite, super courtious and attentive. We talked about things not regarding my visa application. I told him I was coming to visit my girlfriend and some other friends. He said have a nice trip and told me my passport would be sent within 3 to 5 business days.
Great attention.

I filed on June 4 and we got our visa approved on July 9 at the interview. It was extremely quick and easy. The embassy answered all our questions by email in a timely manner. My husband wasn't asked many questions at his interview, which he said lasted between 5-10 minutes. They didn't ask for any evidence of our relationship, even though it was on the list they gave us of things to take to the interview. We didn't have a single problem, and everyone at the embassy was really nice and helpful.
